Job Summary:
Essential Responsibilities:
Operates magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce cross-sectional images (photographs) of patients body for diagnostic purposes. Under the direction of the Chief of Radiology and the Imaging Services Director, with latitude for independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative, performs related technological functions to ensure optimal diagnostic quality of patient care utilizing efficient and safe processes.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs patient studies according to set protocol including placing specified coil close to area of interest.
- Operates imaging and other equipment devices so that quality diagnostic services are provided, including keying commands to specify scan sequences into computer, adjusting transmitters and receivers, and keying in data on keyboard of camera to photograph images.
- Interviews patient to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures to address patient concerns and exhibits a high degree of tact, courtesy and poise when interacting with patients, staff, and visitors.
- Ensures patient and staff safety, including explaining safety protocol, requesting removal of hazardous metal objects, alerting staff of danger or carrying metal around magnet, and monitoring patients via closed circuit TV.
- Trains MRI Technologist Trainees and MRI Technologists I in MRI procedures.
- May be required to direct, check and train other MRI employees.
- Orients new hires and trains students.
- Perform other related duties as necessary.
- Supervisory Responsibilities:This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Grade 830
Basic Qualifications: Experience- Have minimum two (2) years continuous regular (twenty (20) hours or more per week) recent experience performing computerized tomography (CT) and must, to the satisfaction of the department manager be fully proficient in performing all the duties of CT; or,
- Have minimum two (2) years continuous regular (twenty (20) hours or more per week) recent experience as a Registered Ultrasound Technologist in two (2) or more modalities and must, to the satisfaction of the department manager be fully proficient in performing all the duties of an Ultrasound Technologist, or,
- Have minimum one (1) year of continuous regular (twenty (20) hours or more per week) recent experience as a MRI Technologist and must, to the satisfaction of the department manager, be fully proficient in performing al the duties of a MRI Technologist I.
- Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Have satisfactorily completed a three (3) unit semester course in cross-sectional anatomy at an accredited college or have the demonstrated equivalent knowledge as determined by the department manager.
- Certified Radiologic Technologist - Venipuncture Certificate (California) within 6 months of hire
- Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California)
- Basic Life Support
- Must be able to communicate well in order to train other MRI Technologists Trainees and MRI Technologists I in MRI procedures.
- May be required to direct, check and train other MRI employees.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Also refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
- ARRT preferred.
