The cuisine in Laredo reflects the blended culture, and Tex-Mex, BBQ and Mexican restaurants flourish. Make sure to visit the Republic of the Rio Grande Museum to learn about the once-independent nation of the Rio Grande. Housed in a building constructed in 1830, the museum presents a fascinating step back in time. As a shopping hub, Laredo is a great place to find unique souvenirs made in Mexico. Spend a day perusing the shops on San Bernardo Avenue, the city’s main street that stretches over 40 city blocks, or visit the Mall de Norte for a more traditional shopping experience.
