Downtown Northampton is rich in history, culture and the arts. It's home to first-rate galleries, museums, bookstores, a thriving music scene, eclectic eateries, breweries and well-preserved buildings dating from the early-18th to the mid-19th centuries. For live theater, film, music, dance and art, the Academy of Music Theater sits within a majestic building that opened in 1891 as the country's first municipally-owned theater. For those looking to further their education, school is a priority in the heart of the Five-College Area.
