Description
The Emergency Room Technician (ER Tech) plays a crucial role in providing direct and indirect care to patients in the emergency department. ER Technicians are responsible for assisting doctors and nurses with patient care, performing technical procedures, and maintaining the equipment and environment of the emergency room. This role requires the ability to respond quickly, efficiently, and calmly in high-pressure situations to ensure patients receive timely care.
Key Responsibilities:-
Patient Care Assistance:
- Assist in the triage process and help prioritize patients based on severity.
- Take and document vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation).
- Assist in preparing patients for examinations and treatments.
- Provide basic patient care, including assisting with mobility, positioning, and hygiene needs.
- Transport patients to various departments or testing areas as needed.

Clinical Support:
- Assist healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, and paramedics) during emergency procedures and treatments.
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields for various procedures.
- Assist in the application of splints, dressings, and bandages.
- Perform basic wound care, including cleaning and dressing injuries.
- Collect specimens (urine, blood, sputum, etc.) for testing and lab analysis.

Medical Equipment Maintenance:
- Set up and clean medical equipment such as defibrillators, oxygen tanks, EKG machines, and other devices.
- Ensure that medical supplies and equipment are stocked and readily available for emergency procedures.
- Perform routine maintenance and report any malfunctioning equipment to supervisors.

Administrative Support:
- Document patient information and procedures accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) and paper charts as needed.
- Communicate with other healthcare team members regarding patient status, medical history, and any changes in condition.
- Assist with the intake and registration process of patients.

Patient and Family Interaction:
- Provide compassionate care and emotional support to patients and their families during stressful and potentially traumatic events.
- Relay information to patients and families in accordance with hospital policies and under the supervision of the healthcare team.
