Equipment Maintenance and Safety:
- Ensure proper operation of mammography equipment, troubleshooting any technical issues as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the equipment, following safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
- Follow safety standards for radiation protection to minimize patient and staff exposure.
- Ensure the machine is calibrated and functioning correctly to provide optimal images.
Record Keeping and Documentation:
- Maintain patient records, including medical history, previous mammogram results, and details of the current exam.
- Document relevant patient information, such as imaging results, positioning, and any special instructions or requests from the physician.
- Ensure all procedures, patient information, and images are properly logged into the hospital’s Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
Collaboration with Medical Team:
- Communicate effectively with radiologists and physicians regarding images that may require further attention or additional imaging.
- Assist in explaining test results to patients, helping them understand what comes next in the process if further evaluation or follow-up is needed.
- Work closely with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care for the patient, especially if abnormal results are found.
Adherence to Safety and Regulatory Standards:
- Ensure compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations regarding patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Follow all radiation safety protocols to protect both patients and staff from unnecessary exposure.
- Adhere to American College of Radiology (ACR) and FDA guidelines for mammography procedures and safety.
Patient Education:
- Provide patients with post-exam care instructions and answer any questions regarding the results, follow-up, or potential next steps.
- Educate patients on the importance of regular mammograms and breast health, including self-examination and lifestyle factors that affect breast health.
