Job Description

• Position: Respiratory Therapist
• Shift: 4x12 Nights (1800-0630); must be open to overtime.
• Average Daily Census: 130 patients in a 180-bed facility.
• Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years.
• First-timers Accepted: Yes.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other or every third weekend, depending on department needs.
• On-call Requirement: Yes, required from December to April.
• Floating: Will float within scope to meet facility needs.

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)
• Active Illinois State License

Patient Care Responsibilities

• Care for all age groups from neonatal to geriatric with various diagnoses.
• Assist with bronchoscopies and routine respiratory care.
• Respond to codes/traumas and severe respiratory distress in the Emergency Department.
• Experience with Level II Nursery, including bubble CPAP and invasive mechanical ventilation.

Required Skills and Experience

• Work Setting Experience:

  • Required: Adult Critical Care, Emergency Department, Pediatrics.
  • Preferred: NICU, PICU, Transports.

• Airway Management Skills:

  • Endotracheal tube/suctioning, extubation, intubation assist, nasal airway placement, oral airway placement, tracheostomy care.

• Medication Administration:

  • Experience with various respiratory medications (e.g., Albuterol, Atrovent, Pulmicort).

• Ventilator Management:

  • BiPap, CPAP, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, weaning from mechanical ventilation.
