Position Details

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Medical Oncology with progressive care beds/pediatric patients.
  • Patient Care: High acuity of PCU with a small amount of med-surg.
  • Patient Diagnoses:
    • Solid Tumor
    • Orthopedic Oncology
    • Thoracic Oncology

Schedule

  • Flexibility: No set schedule or weekends; must be flexible.
  • Days Off: Maximum of 7 straight days off.
  • Contract Requirement: 14-week contract required if taking 7 days off.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Experience:
    • 2 years of oncology experience preferred, but not required.
    • High acuity PCU patient experience required.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Skills:
    • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
    • Use of rapid response teams
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line care/management
    • Starting IVs
    • Management of cardiac drips (no titration)
    • Tracheostomy management

Preferred Skills

  • Management of dysrhythmias
  • IV insulin protocols
  • Chemotherapy administration
  • Wound care management

Orientation and Training

  • First Week: Monday to Friday dayshift orientation.
  • Second Week: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor.

Additional Information

  • Patient Ratios:
    • 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry
    • 1:3 for PCU
  • Special Equipment:
    • GE telemetry system
    • Bladder Scanner
    • Alaris pumps
    • Continuous Bladder Irrigation
