Job Summary

Under general supervision, the RN will provide nursing care in one of OU Health’s specialty areas.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
• Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; note all changes in physician orders for assigned patients.
• Assist physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
• Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients; observe physiological manifestations and intervene when necessary.
• Administer medication as prescribed.
• Initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
• Deliver patient care competently.
• Interact with family and patients to share care plans during hospitalization and at discharge.
• Oversee treatment provided by technicians or other service providers.
• Inform patients and families of hospital procedures.
• Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
• Delegate tasks to support staff.

Required Skills & Experience

• Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
• Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
• Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
• Some computer skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team providing excellent specialized care.
• May require completion of orientation and ability to function independently in the assigned specialty area prior to being assigned to this position.
