Description:
A Registered Nurse (RN) in Labor and Delivery (L&D) has various responsibilities focused on supporting women during labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.
Regularly assessing the health of both the mother and the baby, including monitoring vital signs, fetal heart rate, and contractions.
Supporting the mother during labor, guiding her through the stages of labor, and assisting with delivery. This may include administering medications (e.g., epidural, pain relief), helping with breathing techniques, and providing emotional support.
Ensuring the delivery room is set up, sterile, and ready for the birth, and preparing the necessary medical equipment and supplies.
Offering care after the birth, including monitoring for complications like hemorrhage, helping with breastfeeding, and assessing the recovery of both mother and baby.
Educating the mother about childbirth, pain management options, breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
Experience Required:
1 year L&D experience.
Required Education:
Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:
Current California nursing license, or current multistate compact RN license.
