POSITION SUMMARY:
The physical therapist is responsible for evaluating, establishing a plan of care, treating/delivering physical therapy services, and monitoring the physical therapist assistants to assure appropriate follow-through with established plan of care for each patient. Licensing is required as directed by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts and must be maintained to evaluate or treat any patient. The physical therapist also serves as the manager of rehabilitative services, including physical, occupational and speech therapies. The manager is responsible for managing services, personnel, budget and equipment resources/ assets within the department, and ensuring services are delivered at the highest quality of care.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluates and provides direct and indirect physical therapy care to acute, emergency room, swing bed and outpatients to establish and carry out a plan of care while following departmental policy and procedures
Documents all patient care in the patients medical record
Is knowledgeable with all department equipment, tools and supplies
Assists in equipment maintenance, including annual maintenance, creating work orders, tagging and monitoring repair
Participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of quality assurance activities
Monitors and delivers patient care in compliance with established infection control policies and procedures
Maintains adequate staff coverage to maximize patient care and patient satisfaction
Responsible for recruitment and retention of departmental personnel
Orients and trains new employees
Performs initial, probationary and annual performance reviews in a timely manner
Reviews and approves departmental personnel timecards.
Works with the Chief Financial Officer in preparing the departments annual budget, reviews monthly reports and ensures charge master is updated as appropriate
Develops, reviews and revises department policies and procedures
Knows, understands and adheres to personal and department head responsibilities for explaining and implementing department and hospital policies and procedures including, but not limited to, personnel, safety, risk management and dress code
Attends department head meetings monthly as well as any other committee or hospital meetings as required or assigned
Performs other job-related duties as directed by the supervisor
Performs/assist with physical therapy evaluations and treatments and is consistent with the level of training and the regulations of the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts to provide optimal patientcare
Maintains licensure requirements
Ensures accuracy and timeliness of documentation of each patient visit, as well as cancellations and no shows
Ensures accuracy of charge entry
Assists in scheduling/re-scheduling of patients
Participates in educational programs, hospital meetings, in service meetings, and/or continuing education as required by the hospital and the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts
Assists with maintenance of the department including cleaning of surfaces and equipment before/after patient use and ordering supplies
