Description

Job Title: Interventional Neuro Technologist
Location: Lancaster, PA
Duration: 13 weeks to start
Shift: 8 or 10h day shifts (7:30a-4:00pm or 7:00a-5:30pm). Occasional weeknight call will be required.
On Call: Starts at the end scheduled shift (5:30pm) and call back starts automatically.
ARRT or RCIS and ACLS certs are required.

Job Description:
  • Performs advanced neurointerventional procedure or Interventional radiology patient care activities and procedures for patients of varying ages.
  • Assists in the development and the monitoring of department specific systems and in the coordination of activities that improve the quality of patient care.
  • Assists physician during all invasive, neuro / vascular, and other special procedures.
  • Provides patient care to all invasive procedures patients, including acquisition and radiographic care for the purpose of diagnostic and/or treatment of anatomic and physiological disorders related to their procedure.
  • Performs and completes data reduction of all studies.
  • Assists with implantation of stents, coils, glue, radioactive isotopes, central lines and biopsies.
  • Provides didactic and clinical training of new employees and students.
  • Patient care includes care to patients in the following age groups: adolescent (13 through 18 years), adult (19 through 64 years), and geriatric (65 years and above).
  • Familiarity with neuroimaging techniques and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
    • Procedure Assistance: Collaborate with neurointerventionalists and other healthcare professionals in performing various complex neurointerventional procedures, including but not limited to aneurysm coiling, arteriovenous malformation (AVM) embolization, carotid artery stenting, intracranial stenting, and intracranial thrombectomy.
    • Assists physicians, according to OR standards of practice. Responsible for maintenance of sterile field, proper set-up, and handling and maintenance of equipment and injection of contrast media.
    • Provides basic and advanced life support according to AHA standards under direct supervision of physician or according to protocol. This includes cardioversion and defibrillation, starting intravenous lines, CPR, and airway support. •
  • Patient Care:
    • Deliver comprehensive care to patients undergoing complex neurointerventional procedures, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being throughout the process.
    • Monitor patients closely during procedures and respond to any emergent situations effectively.
  • Advanced Imaging Techniques:
    • Utilize advanced imaging techniques, including three-dimensional rotational angiography, cone-beam CT, and perfusion imaging, to capture detailed images of the brain and blood vessels. Interpret images accurately and assist with treatment planning.
  • Neurovascular Analysis:
    • Perform advanced neurovascular analysis using specialized software and tools to evaluate cerebral blood flow, identify vascular pathologies, and quantify treatment outcomes.
  • Navigation Systems:
    • Operate advanced navigation systems, such as electromagnetic and infrared-based systems, to guide catheter and device placement during procedures, ensuring optimal accuracy and patient safety.
  • Interventional Device Handling:
    • Handle a wide range of interventional devices, including microcatheters, guidewires, stents, and embolic agents, with precision and dexterity.
    • Assist with device selection and preparation for procedures.
  • Intraoperative Monitoring:
    • Conduct real-time monitoring of cerebral blood flow, oxygenation, and other physiological parameters during procedures, providing critical feedback to the surgical team.
  • Imaging Equipment Operation:
    • Operate advanced imaging equipment, such as angiography systems and other specialized devices, to capture high-quality images of the brain and blood vessels during procedures.
    • Maintains ability to calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot biomedical electronic equipment pertinent to performing invasive procedures.
  • Image Analysis and Documentation:
    • Analyze and interpret imaging data, highlighting significant findings, and documenting procedure details accurately. Maintain meticulous records and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Equipment Preparation and Maintenance:
    • Prepare the interventional suite and equipment for procedures, ensuring proper functionality, cleanliness, and sterilization.
    • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues as needed.
    • Performs preventative safety inspections.
    • Completes warm-up procedures for each radiographic room/equipment as assigned.
    • Records quality control activities.
    • Reports equipment conditions to biomedical engineering or appropriate personnel.
    • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Radiation Safety:
    • Implement radiation safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and yourself.
    • Adhere to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles during procedures.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development and implementation of best practices in interventional neurology.
    • Ensure adherence to rigorous quality assurance and safety protocols, including radiation safety measures, infection control, and sterile technique, to maintain the highest standards of patient care.
  • Mentoring and Training: Act as a mentor and resource for less experienced neuro technologists, providing guidance, training, and support in complex interventional neurology procedures.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about neurointerventional procedures, explaining the process, potential risks, and postprocedural care instructions.
  • Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest advancements in neurointerventional techniques, imaging technology, and safety protocols. Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and training sessions to enhance your knowledge and skills.
  • Research and Development: Contribute to research and development initiatives by participating in clinical trials, data collection, and analysis. Stay updated with the latest advancements in complex neurointerventional techniques and assist in the implementation of innovative approaches.
  • SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
  • The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:
    • Participates in all phases of clinical investigations. Maintains necessary inventory supplies, rotating stock in an orderly fashion and eliminating outdated items. Participates in record-keeping and inventory management.
    • Participates in the on-call responsibilities for this position as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma / GED.
  • Vascular-Interventional Radiography (VI) Certified or Graduate of a formal radiation technologists program with RT (R) (VI certification is required within two (2) years of date of hire); or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS certified)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Two (2) years of experience as an Interventional technologist either in the cath lab or Interventional Radiology or Interventional Neuro.
  • Experience:
    • Prior experience working in an interventional radiology or neurology setting is highly desirable.
    • Familiarity with neuroimaging techniques and procedures.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating neuroimaging equipment, including angiography systems and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) equipment. Familiarity with image analysis software.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neurovascular diseases. Familiarity with interventional neurology procedures, including endovascular thrombectomy, embolization, and stenting.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy when analyzing and documenting imaging data and procedure details.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain complex concepts to patients and their families in a clear and compassionate manner.
  • Teamwork: Strong collaborative skills, working effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptability: Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances during procedures.
