Job Summary and Qualifications

I. Position Summary: 

SCU is a locked specialty med surg unit with the capability to take higher acuity patients requiring behavioral health interventions or management of medical conditions associated with behavioral health conditions (withdrawal, tbi, dementia). We have a 4:1 ratio due to the acuity with 1 CNA on the floor at all times.  We have video monitoring in all of the rooms and iPads associated with every room to better help with communication. The unit was recently remodeled in the last year. 

This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora and Centennial Medical Plaza of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical care to meet the needs of the whole person. The Med Surg RN is responsible for the delivery of nursing care to the general medical/surgical populations utilizing the nursing process. Special populations include vascular, wound care, GI, and ophthalmology surgeries. Oversees and directs the care of LPN’s and assistive personnel, maintaining final accountability for the care given to assigned patients. When the need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

II. Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate Registered Nurse license; BLS certification required from AHA or ARC. 

B. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN Preferred.

C. Experience: One-year experience in acute care preferred. 

D. Special Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong critical thinking skills.
