Description
The Responsibilities of the Nuclear Medicine Technologist include an empathetic and instructional approach to patient care, the preparation, calibration and administration of radiopharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals (under the direction of an authorized user), the performance of quality control procedures and the operation of imaging, laboratory, and computer instrumentation. Qualified technologists can perform CT functions in conjunction with SPECT/CT exams.
Education/Skills required:
· Associate degree required coupled with 6 months of work experience
· Education from formal education program(s) for Nuclear Medicine Technology, and as applicable CT, by the Joint Review Committee of Educational Programs to qualify as Nuclear Medicine Tech
· Meets American College of Radiology requirements/standards to perform Nuclear Medicine exams.
· Current CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist) and/or ARRT certification and/or New York State Department of Health License as a Radiological Technologist. New York State Department of Health License Radiological Technologist with at least a limited practice in Nuclear Medicine and can include CT practice to perform SPECT/CT exams.
· Knowledge of the following
o Quality Control: Requires the evaluation and maintenance of a quality control program for instrumentation to ensure its credibility and reliability.
o Administrative Procedures: Requires the exercise of judgment to schedule patients in a timely arranged manner. Uses judgment to assign work schedules to technologists.
o Nuclear Medicine gamma cameras with and without SPECT/CT; data processing computers; dose calibrators; well counters; EKG machine, thyroid probe; survey meters; film processor; film copiers; lung ventilation equipment; Hospital computer systems applicable to job functions.
o Patient Care: Requires the exercise of judgment to assess and respond to patient's needs before, during, and after visits in the Nuclear Medicine Division. Determine which patients should receive immediate care in the absence of the supervisor.
