Position Details

Additional Information

• Floating Requirements: Must float between ER, MedSurg, and ICU. Clinicians must be proficient in all areas.
• Bed Capacity:

  • ICU: 4 beds
  • ER: 11 beds
  • MedSurg: 19 beds
• Nurse-Patient Ratios:

  • ICU: 1:2
  • ER: 1:4
  • MedSurg: 1:5

Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients

• ICU: Sepsis, CIWA, respiratory support, DKA
• ED: Level 5 Trauma, care for patients of any age with various illnesses or injuries requiring medical attention.

Experience and Skills Required

• Recent ESI Triage experience
• Minimum of 1 year recent critical care experience
• Ability to titrate drips (e.g., Insulin, vasopressors, heparin)

Staffing and Support

• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Hospital Resource Nurse available from 12 PM to 8 AM. Charge nurse in CCU does not take an assignment; charge nurse in ED has an assignment.
• Nurse Aids: CCU has CNAs shared with Med/Surg (1:10 ratio). ED has HUC/Tech roles.
• Hospitalist/Intensivist Availability: ED provider available 24/7; hospitalist in CCU on-site from 7 AM to 6 PM with telehealth support.
• Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7 in ICU.

Monitoring and Equipment

• RNs are required to read their own strips in both ED and CCU.
• Equipment includes Cpap, BiPap, and vents as needed.

Scheduling

• Shifts:

  • ED: Start times at 7 AM and 7 PM
  • CCU: Start times at 6 AM and 6 PM
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: As needed
• Call/Standby Requirement: Occasionally, with a requirement to arrive within 60 minutes if needed.
• Floating: May require internal floating between ED, CCU, and Med/Surg.

Orientation

• 1 day of paperwork and modules, followed by 1 orientation shift in ED and 1 shift in CCU and Med/Surg. Additional shifts may be considered if needed.
