Job Summary
Under general supervision, the RN will provide nursing care in one of OU Health’s specialty areas.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; note all changes in physician orders for assigned patients.
- Assist physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients; observe physiological manifestations and intervene when necessary.
- Administer medication as prescribed.
- Initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
- Deliver patient care competently.
- Interact with family and patients to share care plans during hospitalization and at discharge.
- Oversee treatment provided by technicians or other service providers.
- Inform patients and families of hospital procedures.
- Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
- Delegate tasks to support staff.
Required Skills & Experience
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
- Some computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team providing excellent specialized care.
- May require completion of orientation and ability to function independently in the assigned specialty area prior to being assigned to this position.
