Job Summary
Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Radiology Interventional Technologist specializes in performing invasive procedures to aid in the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Explain examination procedures to patients and prepare them for examinations.
- Obtain additional information about the patient's medical history as necessary.
- Prepare prescribed contrast media, medications, and IV solutions for administration to patients.
- Review clinical data, analyze anatomical structures, set up equipment, and assist the Radiologist in performing complex diagnostic invasive procedures.
- Prepare and set up sterile equipment, physiological monitors, pressure injectors, and imaging equipment required for procedures.
- Ensure adequate supplies (needles, catheters, etc.) are on hand and properly stored; replenish supplies as appropriate.
- Actively assess patient condition before, during, and after all procedures.
- Manually control equipment to obtain proper diagnostic information.
- Assist with the training of new personnel and/or students assigned to the division.
- Perform imaging procedures while demonstrating principles of radiation protection.
- Resolve image exceptions and ensure high-quality image delivery into PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System).
- Complete all study indexing in the Radiology Information System (RIS).
- Demonstrate Team Member Standards of Excellence, including open communication, positive attitude, and respect for diversity.
- Perform Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate and document in the medical record and radiology information system.
