Job Overview: Respiratory Care Position
Location
- City: Shreveport, Louisiana
- Facility: Willis-Knighton Medical Center
Job Details
- Specialty: Respiratory Care
- Shift: 12-hour variable shifts; options include 3/2, 5/2, or 7 on/7 off rotations.
- Floating: Required to float to all facilities within a 20-25 minute driving distance.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum Experience: 2+ years in Respiratory Care, with NICU/PICU experience.
- First-Time Travelers: Not accepted; must have completed at least one 13-week assignment.
Patient Types
- Common diagnoses include:
- COPD, CHF, Flu, Pneumonia, COVID, ARDS, Lung Cancer, Stroke, ALS, post-CABG, post-Liver/Kidney Transplant, Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, Radical Head/Neck surgeries requiring tracheostomy.
- Minor Trauma – MVA.
- GBS, RSV, Cystic Fibrosis, high-risk delivery neonates.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – preferred
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – preferred
- National Accreditation through NBRC required
- LA State Licensure required
- Valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance required.
Skills Required
- Comfortable with high-risk deliveries and supporting Level 3 NICU/PICU.
- Experience with intubation of neonates, airway and ventilator management, ABG puncture and analysis, non-invasive ventilation, Code Blue and rapid response, and inhaled medication administration (including nitric oxide).
Equipment Used
- Various respiratory care equipment including Servo U, Servo I, Trilogy, V60, EV300, Vapotherm HVT, and others.
Department Support
- Support from a Director of Respiratory Care, Assistant Director, Shift Supervisors, Team Leads, RT Educators, and a Department Coordinator.
Orientation and Scheduling
- Orientation: 2 days of NEO orientation for the system, covering all four facilities.
- Scheduling: 36/48 hour rotation with weekend rotation every other weekend. Shift times are 7a-7p and 7p-7a.
