Position Details

General Information

• Beds: 24
• Experience Required: 1-2 years
• First-time Travelers Accepted: Yes (must be separated for 1 year if previously a permanent staff)
• Distance Requirement: Must not live within a 50-mile radius of the facility
• COVID Policy: Vaccine required with an exemption process

Patient Care

• Patient Types:

  • Post-operative CABG, lung surgery (lobectomy/VATS), PCI, AICD placement, TAVR, etc.
  • Medical Stepdown overflow: Sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, DKA, etc.
• Patient Ratios: 1:3-4

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS (preferred)
• LVAD certification (preferred)

Skills Required

• Must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival
• Skills in titrating cardiac drips, managing art lines, venous sheaths, temporary pacemakers, and central lines

Unit Support

• Staffing:

  • CNA: 2 techs during the day, 1 tech at night
  • Cardiac Rehab tech (days only)
  • Unit secretary (days only)
  • Charge nurse (may or may not have patient assignment)
  • In-house phlebotomy and VAT team
  • Resource Nurse (Head RN and PCC available 0700-1500)
  • RT assigned to unit
  • Hospitalist available on call 24/7

Charting System/Equipment

• EMR: Meditech Expanse
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

Floating

• Possible floating to 2 North (Medical Stepdown) or Medsurg (1:5-6 ratios)

Orientation

• 2 days of hospital orientation and 2 shifts on the unit

Scheduling

• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Work Schedule: 4 days one week and 3 days the next week (mandatory)
• Time Off: 7 days approved
• On Call: No call required
• Holiday Expectations: Scheduled per rotation
