Job details

Pediatric / MST is a mixed unit of adult & pediatric patients.
The ratio of adults and pediatric patients vary and at times there are more adults than pediatric patients.
Must be willing to care for adult and pediatric patients.
Float to the MST unit on EC to care for adult MST patients, if the census on the pediatric/MST unit drops.
Experience working with children is required.

Job requirements

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS & PALS
Must take and pass the dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing contract.

Schedule information

12-hour shifts, 0700/1900 – 1930/0730
Weekend Requirement: every other weekend, Friday and Saturday for Nights, Saturday and Sunday for dayshift.
Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation to distribute holidays fairly.
If low census, staff rotates standby turns.

Unit specific information

Charge RN manages 50 inpatient beds that include MST, PEDS, & our Acuity Adaptable MCU unit which admits ICU/PCU/MST.
NAs take 10 patients. If no NA, RN takes 3 patients and provides primary care.
RNs do need to be able to read their Tele strips.
We have Remote Monitor Techs. RNs must assist to stabilize if needed to transfer out.

Ratios: PEDIATRICS 1:3-4, MST 1:5
Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Surgical: total hip & knee replacement, small bowel resection, Hysterectomy, exploratory lap.
Medical: MRSA, C-diff infections, COPD, pneumonia, COVID.
Telemetry: chest pain.
Pediatrics: respiratory illnesses (RSV, Influenza, Covid), seizures (chronic), Dehydration, Appendectomy, FTT.

My review isn’t about the recruiter at all. The position for Rochester, NY psychiatry, I don’t recommend this position. It turns into 60 hours of straight pay, they take advantage of their travelers, no weekends off, 5-6 days a week depending on when they want to put you on call. They schedule you 5 days a week to tell you it’s only 4 however your agency will pay you for the 60 hours, which isn’t what anyone signs up for. They don’t tell you that you have to work 60 hours of on call until you get there. You will work 5-6 days a week here.
