    Job requirements
  • Pediatric/MST is a mixed unit of adult & pediatric patients.
  • Must be willing to care for adult and pediatric patients.
  • Experience working with children is required.
  • Must take care of adults as well.
  • Looking for strong nurses as perm staff may have less experience.
  • Must take and pass the dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing contract.
    Schedule information
  • 12-hour shifts, 0700/1900 – 1930/0730
  • every other weekend, Friday and Saturday for Nights, Saturday and Sunday for dayshift.
  • Holiday rotation to distribute holidays fairly
  • If low census, staff rotates standby turns
    Unit specific information
  • Common diagnoses/Types of patients include surgical, medical, telemetry, and pediatrics.
  • No feeding tubes/trachs/vents for pediatric patients, will assist to stabilize if needed to transfer out.
  • Care for stable Adult patients needing bi-pap for chronic conditions.
  • Floating Requirements: Float into MCU or MST unit to care for adult MST, also cross train and float to the birthing unit to care for mom-baby couplets.
  • If they have experience in Labor and delivery, they can float there as well.
    Additional Details
  • Pediatric/MST ratio of adults and pediatric patients varies.
  • Float to the MST unit on EC to care for adult MST patients, if the census on the pediatric/MST unit drops.
  • Charge RN manages 50 inpatient beds including MST, PEDS, & MCU unit.
  • NAs take 10 patients. If no NA RN takes 3 patients and provides primary care.
  • RNs need to be able to read their Tele strips.
  • Bedside monitors for Pediatric patients.
  • Scrub Color/Dress Code: NAVY
  • Unit/Department specific orientation based on experience.

My review isn’t about the recruiter at all. The position for Rochester, NY psychiatry, I don’t recommend this position. It turns into 60 hours of straight pay, they take advantage of their travelers, no weekends off, 5-6 days a week depending on when they want to put you on call. They schedule you 5 days a week to tell you it’s only 4 however your agency will pay you for the 60 hours, which isn’t what anyone signs up for. They don’t tell you that you have to work 60 hours of on call until you get there. You will work 5-6 days a week here.
