- Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Precedex, dopamine, dobutamine, levophed
Certification details
- A hospital in California is looking for an experienced PCU RN for a travel assignment.
- The PCU is a stepdown unit from the ICU. It will be a 3:1 nurse patient ratio for closer monitoring of the ICU patients that don’t quite meet the tele level of care.
- RN’s should have experience in an ICU stepdown or PCU unit. Training is telemetry. Training in high-risk medications

- The right candidate will have 2+ years of experience, hold an active BLS, ACLS, and CA license.
- Must have 2-3 years of experience in specialty - open to first-time travelers.
Job requirements
- Shifts & Scheduling: 12Hr shifts starting at 645am/pm. 3 shifts/week. Schedules made out about 2-3 weeks in advance initially and then try to schedule them out 9 weeks in advance. Self-scheduling for the most part.
- Weekend Requirements: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule, Days - Sat/Sun, Nights - Fri/Sat
- Holiday Requirements: Work into perm staff rotation

- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:3
- Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: 1 aid most of the time for all 14 beds
- Floating Requirements: First to float, float to Tele or MedSurg
- Scrub Color/Dress code: Navy blue
- Unit/Department-specific orientation: 1 shift on unit

- The unit is a very busy unit with a lot of quick turnovers.
- They stress the patient experience on the unit and they want someone who knows and understands HCAHPS and core measures.
- Want someone that will be invested in their mission and values.
- It is also important the traveler is self-motivated and team-oriented.
- They are very traveler friendly.
- Very close-knit team with effective teamwork.
- Holiday time-off (RTO) will be considered, however, it may not be guaranteed.

My review isn’t about the recruiter at all. The position for Rochester, NY psychiatry, I don’t recommend this position. It turns into 60 hours of straight pay, they take advantage of their travelers, no weekends off, 5-6 days a week depending on when they want to put you on call. They schedule you 5 days a week to tell you it’s only 4 however your agency will pay you for the 60 hours, which isn’t what anyone signs up for. They don’t tell you that you have to work 60 hours of on call until you get there. You will work 5-6 days a week here.
