Unit Name/Type of unit: 3 Giles- acute specialty care
Selling points for the unit:
# beds/procedures: 35 beds, oncology overflow, but no chemo, orthopedics, arm/hand surgery, hysterectomy, bariatric weight loss surgery, general med surge patients
Patient ratio: 4-5 patients to 1 nurse, 10-12 patients to 1 PCA
Does RN need to know how to read tele strips? This is expected, but we have a central monitor unit that reads our strips
Top diagnosis/procedures: Ortho, oncology, pancreatitis, arm/hand infections, weight loss surgery, CKD, sickle cell
Common equipment used: EKG, bladder scanner, epidural pump, IV pump, feeding tube pump, PCA pump
Does RN need to be able to titrate medication? Heparin and protonix drips per order
Common medications given: most medications are given on this unit, unless they are ICU specific, or more complicated cardiac medications
EPIC Charting
Scrub Color (are they provided): They are not provided, nurses wear galaxy blue, PCAs light gray

• Obtain 12 lead EKG
