Major Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for leading the day to day activities of the CT Department
    •     1)Provide information on staffing needs to Manager and provide work schedules to staff ensuring that all shifts are covered
    •     2)Work with Biomed Service to maintain equipment in a functional status, reporting significant downtime to Manager and affected departments; ie, Emergency Department
    •     3)Ensure responsible staff maintain proper supply inventories within the department
    •     4)Ensure responsible staff keep rooms prepared and stocked at all times and that rooms are clean and ready for patients
    •     5)Work together with Inpatient Scheduling to schedule inpatients appropriately and with Outpatient Scheduling to do the same
  • Provide oversite / direction to CT Technologists to carry out their daily assignments
    •     4)Ensure that all CT Staff follow the patient identification policy
    •     5)Ensure that all CT Staff follow the department workflow for completion and verifying all cases in a timely fashion
    •     6)Ensure that all patients are transferred, positioned and immobilized properly in order to provide quality patient examinations.
    •     7)Ensure that all staff members are competent with starting IV's for administration of contrast media in accordance with hospital policy and procedure utilizing universal precautions.
    •     8)Ensure that all CT Staff are competent in the operation of power injectors, independent workstations and CT Equipment
    •     9)Ensure that all contrast reactions are properly documented and that Midas reports are entered.
    •     1)Oversee the CT Equipment protocols and technical factors so that CT Technologists can provide safe, ALARA based optimal patient examinations
    •     2)Ensure that job aides for specialized exams are available either online or posted for CT Staff to refer to when necessary.
    •     3)Identify technical limitations among CT Staff members and work with appropriate key staff members to make sure that training is performed and documented in each staff member's file.
  • Ensure that CT Staff are trained and competent to function with GE Advantage Workstation, Vitria (Vital Images) workstation and 3 DR Post Processing protocols.
    •     1)Oversee the competency training of each CT technologist in the use and functionality of the post processing tools available for patient studies.
    •     2)Oversee that procedures are post processed on the correct workstation or in cases where staff is unsure of protocol or unsure of process that they do understand that 3 DR can be sent exams for post processing and what the proper protocol is to send the exam out / receive it back and put it out to be read.
    •     3)Oversee the technical trainer's for post processing, equipment functionality, and specialized exams to ensure they are training staff thoroughly and competently to meet the needs of our patients and physicians.
  • Maintain established Accrediting Organization (DNV, ACR) and Departmental Safety Standards (Dose Management, Policy and Procedure) to ensure patient and staff well being
    •     1)Ensure compliance with IDPH, The Accrediting Organization and other licensing/accrediting bodies and agencies.
    •     2)Develop a monthly plan to address quality improvement issues in collaboration with the manager.
    •     3)Encourage staff to seek additional knowledge and skill by pursuing formal education, certification, and other professional development opportunities and participation in professional organizations.
    •     4)Maintain Radiation Safety standards to protect patients and staff during daily work activities
    •     5)Maintain Fire Safety / Disaster Safety / and Evacuation Policy education requirements for all CT Staff
    •     6)Assist staff to attend and actively participate in all mandatory inservices and educational opportunities
  • Provide oversite / direction to all CT Staff in the area of Patient Satisfaction and the tools we can utilize to bring our satisfaction results up.
    •     1)Ensure that all staff is involved in maintaining a positive patient environment at all times in both the in and outpatient work areas.
    •     2)Participate in providing service recovery efforts to patients with delays in service or valid negative experiences within the department.
    •     3)Maintain excellent relations with other departments (ED / ICU), physicians (both radiologists and staff) and with staff members throughout the organization.
    •     4)Lead the Inpatient and Outpatient CT staff Customer Service activities and maintain a Press Ganey Percentile Rank of at least 75%
  • Ensure physician relations and partnership are positive and timely. Act on concerns by the Radiologists in a timely manner. Develop a can do team with staff and Radiologists to meet the needs of our patients and functionally close departments. This may include ED / Cardiology and/or Infection Control.
    •     1)Collaborate with physicians and members of other departments and disciplines in the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services to meet the needs of the department population
    •     2)Work closely with Radiologists and Physicians to develop and implement strategies to resolve physician complaints and concerns
    •     3)Partner with physicians; ie: Cardiologists, in the development and enhancement of clinical programs.
    •     4)Maintain relationships with Infection Control, Interventional Radiology and ED to meet the needs of all of our patients
  • Build a team of CT Technologists that are skilled, extremely competent, and knowledgeable of all protocols / equipment and resources within the department.
    •     1)Collaborate with the manager in the recruitment and selection of high quality staff and maintain staffing and appropriate work assignments.
    •     2)Role model the Behaviors of Excellence to staff, encourage staff accountability.
    •     3)Follow established processes for receiving and resolving employee complaints and concerns.
    •     4)Provide feedback to manager for performance reviews of all staff in which peer review is a mandatory component of the evaluation process.
    •     5)Function as preceptor to new technologists in the department and/or delegate preceptor responsibility to other techs as necessary.
    •     6)Utilize appropriate communication skills when dealing with difficult situations


Education/Experience Required:

  • *CT Technologist with 3-4 years of clinical experience and a minimum of 1 years charge experience.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • *Excellent interpersonal Communication and organizational skills *Ability to work independently *Ability to anticipate patient and unit needs. *Computer proficiency *3-4 years of CT Experience in a busy trauma Center
  • * Maintenance of all current Certifications, including but not limited to CPR. *Completion of all Competency/skills testing.


Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • * Ability to function in a high stress environment. * Lift and move heavy patients * Must be able to work flexible hours *Ability to respond to request to work on short notice. *Ability to be flexible in starting times to meet demands (weekend rotation and flexible hours). *Exposure to radiation *Ability to deal with extremely ill patients *Ability to communicate with patients *Ability to adjust to flexible work hours *Ability to work weekends, holidays, and call-back *Ability to facilitate department and educational meetings *Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgment skills. *Ability to perform job activities with minimal assistance This position will need to recognize the behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging; prior experience with various age groups are preferred.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

I had a chance to work advocate Aurora hospital as a travel nurse for 3 month, I had a very good experience there, well atmosphere to work, leader are really supportive, and staffing was really good too
