Known as the "Crawfish Capital of the World," Breaux Bridge is a small city in the heart of Louisiana's Cajun Country. Located along the Bayou Teche, the 125-mile-long waterway winds by the historic downtown area, which hosts many gourmet Cajun eateries, boutiques, antique stores and venues for funky Zydeco music. Many historic homes and buildings, like the 1895 Queen Anne-style Gaston Patin House, give the downtown character and charm. The 1811 Silvestre Broussard House is the oldest structure in town, a Creole/Acadian cottage that's provided room and board since the 1850s. The famous Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival, held annually on the first full weekend of May, brings 1,000s to taste crawfish prepared in nearly every way imaginable, from boiled and fried to bisques and even crawdogs. With a relatively mild climate, you can typically enjoy outdoor activities year-round, including golfing, fishing, hiking and biking.
