Therapeutic Medical Physicist
$15,000 Sign on Bonus available (External applicants only)
The Division of Medical Physics at Baylor Scott and White Health, Department of Radiation Oncology, is seeking a full-time MS and DMP therapeutic medical physicist in Radiation Therapy to join our team and support clinical operations at the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center – Hillcrest, in Waco, Texas. This position is an addition due to the significant growth in Hillcrest. The successful candidate will join a group of physicists consisting of 3 PhD-level physicists and 5 MS-level physicists (this position will make 6 MS-level physicists) covering 4 clinics in Central Texas: Temple, Killeen, Waco, and College Station. This is a clinical position working full-time on-site at the Hillcrest clinic with another senior physicist. Among the four clinics, there are 5 Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, 2 Varian Varisource units, 1 Elekta Flexitron, and 5 CT simulators. We are also expecting to add a second Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator at the Hillcrest clinic in the near future.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing physics support at the Hillcrest clinic and will work with other members of the radiation oncology team to deliver the highest level of clinical service. Primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
· Performing, evaluating, and managing regularly scheduled quality assurance testing of treatment-related machines and/or systems (linear accelerator, brachytherapy, computed tomography, and radiation treatment planning system).
· Performing and supervising any radiation treatment that requires a therapeutic medical physicist to be present.
· Performing, supervising, and evaluating any computer-aided planning and/or calculation for radiation treatment (external beam and HDR).
· Performing and evaluating patient-related dosimetric measurements to assess treatment quality.
· Providing consultation to radiation oncologists, clinical staff, and patients if requested.
· Participating in the acceptance and commissioning of new treatment modalities.
· Participating in state and federal compliance of the department.

The successful candidate needs to have demonstrated clinical skills in these areas, exceptional communication skills (both oral and written), and the ability to operate independently with good clinical judgment. The successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Medical Physics in Temple, TX. This position will require the following minimum criteria:
· Master or DMP in Medical Physics or related field required.
· Licensed (either full or temporary) by the State of Texas as a Medical Physicist required.
· Eligible for Therapeutic Medical Physics board certification by the American Board of Radiology required. Must have passed Part I of ABR therapeutic medical physics certificate.
The successful candidate will join a rapidly growing and dynamic division of ten full-time physicists (covering Central and North Texas), six dosimetrists, and four physics residents. Baylor Scott and White Health has twelve Radiation Oncologists with significant experience in a wide variety of specializations. The Physics Division provides physics support for Baylor Scott and White Health Radiation Oncology operations at many sites in the heart of Texas: Temple, Killeen, Waco, Waxahachie, Irving, Duncanville, and College Station.

JOB SUMMARY
The Therapeutic Med Physicist 1, under the direction of the Director of Medical Physics from the Department of Radiation Oncology, performs the technical aspect of safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy to achieve the therapeutic treatment outcome of a patient.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Performs, evaluates and manages regularly scheduled quality assurance testing of treatment related machines and/or systems (linear accelerator, brachytherapy, computed tomography, and radiation treatment planning system).

Performs and evaluates patient related dosimetric measurements to evaluate treatment quality.
Provides consultation to radiation oncologists, clinical staff and patients if requested.
Participates in acceptance and commissioning of new treatment modality.
Participates in state and federal compliance of the department.
Fulfills, and provides proof of, continuing education, licensure, and/or certifications required to remain qualified for this role.
