Job Summary and QualificationsThe Infection Prevention / Employee Health Registered Nurse (RN) is part of the Quality Department and is responsible for the prevention, detection, and control of infections within the facility; as well as, coordinating the delivery of high quality, comprehensive employee health programs designed to promote employee wellness, maintain productivity, decrease absenteeism, and promote cost containment.
What will you do in this role:
· Compliance with federal, state, and The Joint Commission standards pertaining to infection prevention
· Ensures best practices pertaining to infection prevention are utilized throughout the facility through policy development /revision, monitoring practice, and enforcing safe occupational/environmental hygiene practices
· Acts as a role model, resource, and educator for clinical staff regarding infection prevention practices, theory, and standards
· Maintains communication with hospital staff and administration regarding detection and surveillance of possible hazardous situations
· Conducts ongoing lab-based surveillance of infections in patients
· Develops, implements, and/or maintains a reporting system for hospital acquired infections, communicable diseases, and other reportable infections, including quality data collection and analysis. Reports data and analysis of data to the Infection Prevention Committee, and any other appropriate group of individuals
· Rounds in all targeted surveillance areas on a routine basis per predetermined time intervals and intervenes at the point-of-care on issues related to infection prevention as they are identified
· Collects surveillance data on infections per specific criteria and sampling methodology and enters data into infection prevention database programs
· Leads investigations pertaining to hospital acquired infections. Collaborates and strategizes with leaders in the facility for action planning with measurable goals
· Leads, coordinates, and manages the Infection Control Committee activities
· Coordinates, in collaboration with department leaders, to develop, implement, and update the infection prevention standards for their departments
· Reports and participates with the facility’s Quality Council, Nursing Quality Council, associated task force committees, and other committees as assigned
· Provides analytical and practical support for day-to-day operations, including pre-employment screenings, annual physicals and immunizations, and Worker’s Compensation claims.
· Ensures program quality assurance through implementation of standards and policies, assessments, and reporting.
· Stays abreast of enterprise policies regarding pre-employment screenings, drug and TB testing, and annual physicals and vaccines.
· Stays abreast of Worker’s Compensation labor codes, reporting requirements, and all federal, state, and local regulations.
·Assists employees who have sustained a work related illness or injury, providing necessary forms and coordinating medical evaluation and treatment.
· Collaborates with department leaders, Human Resources, third party claims administrators, and treatment providers to ensure smooth management of work-related injuries and illnesses throughout the process.
· Leads the interactive process with injured and/or disabled employee and manager to identify accommodations such as modified duty or alternative work assignments
· Works with leadership to implement loss control strategies, including employee safety programs to reduce worker injuries and liability
What qualifications will you need:
Virginia Registered Nurse license or Multi-State RN Compact license required
Bachelors Degree in Nursing required
Surgical Services RN experience preferred
Experience in managing Employee Health, Worker’s Compensation, Safety, or similar programs within the healthcare industry
Infection Prevention certification (CIC) must be obtained within 2 years of employment start date
