Description

Summary of Position : The Department of Radiology at the Penn State University College of Medicine is seeking a full-time Faculty Physician for the Division of Nuclear Medicine. The successful candidate will be subspecialty trained and have or be eligible for either a CAQ in nuclear medicine from the ABR or ABNM certification. The position's responsibilities will include the interpretation of diagnostic adult and pediatric nuclear medicine examinations, as well as consultation for and supervision of therapeutic procedures. Special consideration will be given to candidates with an academic interest in oncologic imaging, theranostics, and neuromolecular imaging in neurocognitive diseases. There is an opportunity for interdisciplinary clinical research through collaboration with our basic science investigators on Penn State University’s main campus and at the Center for NMR Research and MRI Core Research facility. This Center has 4 research faculty with unique expertise in applying fMRI and quantitative imaging biomarkers to study neurocognitive diseases and brain trauma. The Department recently established an imaging core lab to support the development and application of imaging biomarkers for clinical research and the Division of Radiology Innovation and Value Enhancement (DRIVE) for support of informatics and advanced data analytics for research and process improvement.

The Department has a strong commitment to serve the clinical, education, and research mission of the University and a collegial and collaborative relationship with the clinical services. The Division of Nuclear Medicine has 3 fellowship trained faculty and sponsors an ACGME fellowship in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging. A passion for teaching is essential, as educating our medical students, residents, fellows, and staff is a core value of our academic mission.

The Department has state of the art diagnostic imaging equipment, including:

  • One PET/CT scanner (Biograph mCT) – features include a diagnostic 16-slice CT scanner with images reviewed on Syngo.via and on Philips IntelliSpace PACS
  • Two modern Symbia Intevo hybrid SPECT/CT systems – features include a diagnostic 16-slice CT scanner combined with a dual-headed SPECT gamma camera, XSPECT and XQUANT processing, and one system calibrated for MIM Software-enabled Lu-177, Y-90, and I-131 dosimetry
  • Three dual-head SPECT gamma cameras for a variety of general nuclear medicine examinations
  • One dedicated cardiac SPECT gamma camera
  • Atom 950 thyroid uptake system
  • Two Hologic Horizon A scanners for Dual X-ray Absorptiometry
  • One Hologic Discovery A scanner for Dual X-ray Absorptiometry

The Nuclear Medicine Division performs all types of FDA-approved oncologic PET/CT, Amyloid and metabolic brain PET/CT, cardiac Rb-82 PET/CT, all types of FDA-approved SPECT/CT exams, and all of the standard planar exams. Our physicians supervise all FDA-approved adult radiopharmaceutical therapies.
