As an Oncology nurse at Methodist Hospital Stone Oak, you’ll stand alongside patients and their families receiving treatment for various cancers, be on the forefront of cutting-edge cancer treatments and advancements including immunotherapies and targeted therapies, critically think through cancer treatment administration and patient responses/side effects, educate patients about their diagnoses and treatment options, and strategize and collaborate with a passionate, skilled interdisciplinary team with one collaborative goal of providing personalized, high-quality care to patients during their cancer journeys.
Position Details:
- Patient Population consists primarily of Oncology patients with various cancer diagnoses receiving treatments including but not limited to chemotherapy, immunotherapies, targeted therapies and treatment of side effects from cancer or cancer treatments
- Average patient length of stay can be a few days to several weeks depending on patient acuity; therefore, this is a great place to build relationships with patients
- Self/Preferential Scheduling posted four weeks in advance
- Supportive, visible leadership that promotes a collaborative, respectful team culture where nurses are empowered to ask questions, seek help, and provide valuable input
- Staffing Support from CNAs/PCTs, Charge Nurses, and an RN float pool internal to HCA Healthcare that is available as a staffing resource as needed
- Rounding with CNCs to ensure your voice is heard on suggestions for patient care
- Minimal Floating with core staff to be the last to float
- Overtime not mandatory, but usually available when desired by RN
- Growth opportunities into leadership roles, advancement in the Oncology nursing field such as Bone Marrow Transplant, Oncology Clinics, Cancer Research/Clinical Trials Nursing, Oncology Nurse Navigator, Oncology Coordinator and more; or cross-train into other acute care areas of nursing such as Progressive or Intensive Care, Women’s Services, Emergency Department, PACU and more
What you will do in this role:
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while managing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives
- Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team – consisting of the provider(s), therapy, and more
- Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care to patients
- Assess patient condition, monitor throughout your shift, and document changes in patient condition along with the care provided thoroughly
- Educate patients and families/caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment and follow-up measures
What qualifications you will need:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (Employees with RN Compact License are required to obtain Texas RN License within 90 days of hire date)
- Bachelor's Degree, Associate's Degree, or Registered Nurse Diploma
- A minimum of one year employment experience as a Registered Nurse in any setting (short or long-term acute care, home health, etc)
Note: We are able to train or upskill candidates without direct Oncology experience as part of a thorough, extended unit orientation
