Education and Experience requirements · High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program (*see substitution below). • Current Surgical Technologist Certification is required if eligible to sit for certification exam; must hold and maintain a current Surgical Technologist Certification administered by a nationally recognized surgical technologist certifying body accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and recognized by the American College of Surgeons and Association of Surgical Technologists or has successfully completed a training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service (MA Senate Bill 2058, December 2012) · A minimum of three (3) years of diversified experience in the operating/procedure room. Preferred experience: · Associate’s degree strongly preferred. · 5 years’ experience as Surgical Technologist in an acute care setting scrubbing in multiple specialties preferred. · Committee and leadership experience preferred. · One (1) year of experience working and leading teams preferred. · Basic Life Support (BLS) About Brigham and Women’s Hospital Brigham and Women's Hospital is one of the top hospitals in America with more than 790 beds, and a premier teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Position Summary Surgical Technologist at this level are both entry level and fully competent as surgical technologists and hold a surgical technologist certification or * have been employed as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility on or before July 1st, 2013 or have successfully completed a training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service (MA Senate Bill 2058, December 2012). They work closely with surgeons and nurses to ensure the smooth and efficient function of the operating room. A Surgical Tech must have a strong understanding of sterile techniques and be able to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
