1. M ust have graduated from an approved formal Program in Radiologic technology 2. I ncumbent must possess a valid Massachusetts license as a Radiologic technologist in the category of Radiography. 3. T o perform mammography the incumbent must possess a valid Massachusetts license in mammography in addition to the license in radiography. 4. M ust meet, successfully complete, and maintain the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or equivalent certification and registration. 5. 0 - 2 years experience as a Radiologic Technologist SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: 1. M ust be able to operate and utilize all types of x-ray and related equipment and supplies. 2. M ust effectively use interpersonal skills to deal with patients and fellow employees who may be under physical and/or emotional stress. 3. M ust be able to read and interpret requisitions forms. 4. M ust be able to comprehend complex information and use independent judgment in a variety of situations. 5. M ust be physically capable of lifting, (linen, supplies, patients etc.). WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. M ust be prepared to work OT, holidays and weekends as needed. 2. W orks in a large open area in radiology that is noisy and tends to have extreme temperature and humidity variations. 3. M inimal exposure to ionizing radiation when using proper safety procedures. 4. C ontinuous standing and lifting. 5. E xposure to human waste and disease. 6. GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Under the direction and supervision of a technical supervisor, incumbent performs radiographic procedures in the respective sections. Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative in applying ionizing radiation for radiographic diagnosis. Staff may be required to float among radiology clinics associated with BWH as needed. These sites are, but not limited to: 75 Francis Street Boston MA.,850 Boylston Street ,Chestnut Hill Ma, and 20 Patriot Place Foxborough, Ma. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. P erforms duties such as transporting, transferring, immobilizing and positioning patients. 2. C alculates and selects proper technical factors; operates all equipment as required; acquires and processes Images; properly identifies images with patient I. D. and appropriate markers in order to obtain quality diagnostic images. 3. P rovides radiation protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards; assists physicians in administering contrast media, practices technique, and performs first aid when necessary. 4. A ssists in Quality Improvement projects. 5. U ses Radiology information system and Hospital Information Systems that are Integrated with the Department of Radiology to keep patient data up-to-date such as scheduling, tracking, along with appropriate Image Services and maintenance responsibilities. 6. M aintains orderliness and cleanliness of assigned areas. 7. R otates within department, divisions and all off site clinics, by shifts as required and needed; cooperates with all personnel, promoting harmony within department 8. E xplains exam to patient taking into consideration physical and emotional needs; maintaining ethical standards. (Patient confidentiality, professional conduct, etc.) 9. A ttends staff meetings, in-services, and maintains appropriate CEU's in accordance with Massachusetts’s state licensure and ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) requirements. 10. P erforms other related duties including; reception, Image Services and Escort functions as necessary. 11. A ssists Radiologic Technologist students and new staff in performing Radiologic exams, sterile technique, and proper stocking of supplies in radiographic rooms.
