Qualifications: 1. A B achelor of Science degree is preferred, but must possess Associate degree or equivalent program with a Cardiovascular Technologist Certificate. 2. ARDCS or CCI certification required. 3. 1-2 years in a major teaching institution as an Echo technician preferred. 4. A n understanding in cardiac anatomy, physiology and hemodynamic is required. Skills and Abilities Required: 0. M ust possess a high degree of technical expertise with the knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and hemodynamic. 1. M ust have analytical ability to perform and analyze complex cardiac pathologies by echocardiography. 2. M ust have the ability of producing an initial interpretation to the referring physicians. Difficult and complex cases should be reviewed with the echo supervisor. 3. M ust possess manual dexterity sufficient to work with ultrasound transducer and delicate panels on equipment. 4. M ust have a good understanding of equipment function, and ultrasound physics. 5. M ust have the ability to interact with understanding with patients and staff for smooth lab flow and genuine cooperation. 6. F lexibility is essential here. Technicians also interact with physicians for the purpose of information. 7. M ust have the ability to work weekend shifts. 8. M ust be able to perform bedside echocardiograms in intensive care units. 9. M ust have mastered all the duties and responsibilities of this job description. GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Under the supervision of the Chief Sonographer and Medical Director this position is responsible for independently performing 2-dimensional, color Doppler and Doppler echocardiograms. This position is also responsible to assist in the inventory of supplies and equipment maintenance. Job requires a high level of knowledge to read and interpret test results, especially those which are abnormal or atypical. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1. P erforms 2-dimensional, color Doppler and Doppler of the heart echocardiograms. Must be proficient and knowledgeable in non-imaging continuous Doppler to perform effective results for diagnosing and imaging different pathologies ( Valvular, Congenital, Systolic, Diastology) 2. M ust have the ability to interpret test results and to notify referring physician or house officer of a preliminary report. 3. A ssists in the scheduling of cardiac ultrasound procedures for inpatients and out patients, when there is a question of whether there is availability when the schedule is booked. 4. R esponsible for inventory of supplies in the Echo Lab 5. R esponsible for the daily cleaning of equipment with approved hospital disinfectant and following Infection Control guidelines. 6. M aintains all echo equipment to solve minor operating problems. Difficult or complex problems are referred to the echo supervisor. 7. R eviews the patient’s chart to obtain pertinent clinical history in order to perform test and to accurately interpret and perform cardiac examination. 8. E xplains procedure to the patient and positions patient for the cardiac ultrasound examination. Making sure patient s are comfortable and understands the procedure. 9. P erforms several portable studies a day requiring mobilization of the equipment by the technician. 10. R ecords and reviews test results for accuracy and prepares test reports, utilize ancillary devices (Electronic medical records and reporting systems) to obtain a permanent record of the cardiac examination. 11. R ecords, calculates and plots known control values on technical instruments to ensure their reliability and accuracy in reporting outtest results. 12. M aintains testing rooms in clean and orderly condition which includes disposing of soiled linen, stocking necessary supplies and so forth. Cleans equipment such as patient cable, transducer, and ultrasound machine. 13. K eeps current regarding development in technical instrumentation to trends and techniques in cardiac ultrasound testing through appropriate journals attends seminars and other meetings per approval of echo supervisor. 14. P erforms minor clerical duties as required by echo supervisor or Technical Director, such as answering phones, etc. 15. P erforms all other duties as necessary. 16. A ll the above testing is performed without physician assistance with minimal supervision of test results by the echo supervisor.
