Experience Minimum Required • 3 years as a clinical pharmacist in a health-system. Experience Preferred/Desired • 5 years health system experience as a clinical pharmacist plus leadership experience as a supervisor or committee chair. Education Minimum Required • Graduate of an ACPE Accredited School of Pharmacy • BS in Pharmacy or PharmD Training Preferred/Desired • ASHP Approved Residency or Equivalent major healthcare experience Special Skills Minimum Required • Proficient in English, Excellent verbal and written communication skills Licensure and/or Certifications Required • NH Pharmacist Licensure and/or Certifications Preferred/Desired • Board Certification in specialty area Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, an affiliate of Mass General Brigham, is committed to supporting patient care, research, teaching, and service to the community. The Pharmacy Team Leader is a highly effective clinical pharmacist who collaborates with pharmacy leaders and leads a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in developing their ability to effectively deliver pharmacy services in their assigned practice area (e.g. Drug, IV, Oncology Services). The PharmacyTeam Leader role is to provide guidance, instruction, training and leadership skills to deliver high-quality, effective pharmacy services. The Pharmacy Team Leader provides support to their team by providing 1-on-1 observation and coaching; contributing to the growth and performance evaluation for pharmacists and technicians. The Pharmacy Team Leader will assist the Pharmacy Leadership Team, including hiring and training; development and review of policy and procedures; and, keeping the leadership team updated on team performance. This position will have a staffing component based on the needs of the department. They will have both pharmacist and technician staff that directly report to them as determined by their respective manager. Clinical Judgement • Uses knowledge and expertise to identify potential problems. • Shares responsibility for process and outcomes, providing staff performance coaching for process and quality improvement. • Encourages staff to provide input and make decisions to improve the work environment. • Oversees daily operations of practice area in collaboration with the department leadership team, staff, and interdisciplinary stakeholders. Collaboration • Role models, teaches and/or mentors professional leadership and accountability for pharmacy's role within the health-care team. • Serves as an active team member, making positive contributions to patient care outcomes and department goals. • Works with the team to develop workflow guidelines, policies and procedures, and other necessary tools (e.g. assignment sheets, scheduling, etc.) to maximize productivity and standardize practices in the practice area. • Oversees compliance with regulatory requirements for the department and corrects items of concern (e.g. NH Board of Pharmacy, USP <797>, USP <800>, The Joint Commission). • Assists with coordination and presentation of staff meetings. System Thinking • With guidance from the manager, recognizes, responds, and provides follow-up for issues, concerns, and suggestions on behalf of the staff. • In collaboration with the manager, analyzes and provides timely follow-up on identified safety concerns, near misses, critical incidents and sentinel events and provides leadership in system redesign to promote a culture of safety for patients and staff. • Assumes accountability for daily processes of the practice area - assumes resource role or patient assignment as needed. • Coordinates staffing schedule to optimize patient care and services in practice area. • Integrates knowledge of mission, goals, and systems into the development of staff and patient strategies and department growth. • Evaluates the efficiency of practice area daily operations and supports cost-effective resource utilization and financial outcomes. Professional Development: Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in pharmacy professional practice. • Involves staff in projects that encourage and provide opportunities for professional development. • Sustains personal professional curiosity and willingness to explore new knowledge and ideas. • Seeks constructive feedback regarding his or her own practice • Participates in ongoing educational activities related to practice area and professional issues • Seeks/maintains specialty certification as appropriate Authentic Leadership • Contributes to an environment that facilitates development of clinical expertise of staff by role modeling, teaching, and coaching/mentoring. • Promotes cohesive work teams and constructive conflict resolution, actively supporting intra - and inter-disciplinary teamwork, within the department. • Responsible for personnel selection (interviews and hiring), and oversees the orientation of new employees. • Responsible for personnel action (transferring, advancement, progressive discipline. Completes annual staff evaluations timely. • Assists with setting clear staff performance expectations, encouraging staff development, and completing timely performance evaluations-including staff input in each process. • Demonstrates reflective leadership and uses self-appraisal, performance appraisal, Department Director input, and peer review to assist with professional development. • Conducts coaching and feedback with collaboration from pharmacy leader. Perform the duties of the Clinical Pharmacist. • Demonstrates competence in the performance and responsibilities related to providing safe and appropriate management of medications (e.g. order review, dispensing, monitoring). • Provides education and information on pharmaceutical care and drug therapy. • Directly supervises supportive personnel in medication-use processes. • Precept students for Advance Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) and/or Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE).
