LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable): - Current pharmacy technician licensure by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts - Current national pharmacy technician certification EDUCATION: - High School diploma or equivalent SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: - Computer literacy - English proficiency - Work independently when necessary - Effective communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills - Organizational ability with attention to detail - Handle multiple tasks simultaneously - Ability to work in high-pressure situations - Work well on a team - Able to meet deadlines - Able to pass area-specific competencies - Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and sterility of IV room WORKING CONDITIONS: Describe the conditions in which the work is performed. - Daily exposure to the mental/emotional stress related to the oncology experience(s) of patients/families. - Risk of exposure to hazardous materials, known carcinogens and risk of physical injury. - Able to lift 20 lbs. - Capable of standing or sitting for extended periods of time. EXPERIENCE: - 2 years of hospital based experience preferred - CSPT certification preferred We're offering a generous sign-on bonus of $3,000.00 to welcome you to our team. The position will cover both our infusion and OR pharmacies and offers a rotating schedule, with no nights or weekends. GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Working in concert with the pharmacy team under the general direction of the Pharmacy Coordinator and Director, the Pharmacy Technician follows established policies and procedures to perform activities that are integral to the operation of the pharmacy department at Mass General Waltham. Activities include sterile product manufacturing, dispensing, training personnel, automated medication systems management, inventory management, checking expiration dates on medications, environmental management, distributive functions and ensuring cleanliness of the IV room and all equipment. Coordinates day to day functions of the department and will direct other ancillary staff to ensure efficient departmental operations. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Job-specific Responsibilities Inventory Control 1. O rder medication through correct account, receive, check-in, rotate, and store all medications and supplies received from manufacturers, wholesalers, and materials management. 2. D onning appropriate safety garb when necessary as per NIOSH recommendations. 3. C omply with Drug supply chain security act (DSCSA) 4. U nderstands contractual obligations when ordering medication 5. C hecks and stocks automated medication dispensing devices under the direction of a pharmacist. 6. R eports damage, incorrect orders or shortages to wholesaler 7. I dentifies industry drug shortages and reports to pharmacy manager. 8. D etermine which inventory items should be ordered. 9. W eekly inventory of selected items. 10. P articipate in the semi-annual physical inventory of all pharmaceutical products. 11. I dentify, segregate and log expired medications. 12. M aintain the organization and cleanliness of the pharmacy. Operating Room Pharmacy Activities: 0. C hecks and stocks all automated medication dispensing devices (located in the anesthesia workrooms, med rooms, med onc, and the pharmacy vault) under the direction of a pharmacist. 1. U pdates and Fills Code Carts under the direction of a pharmacist. 2. C ompletes quarterly Audits for the OR pharmacy, oncology pharmacy, cardiology, radiology and all automated medication dispensing devices. 3. I dentifies, segregates and logs expired medications. 4. M anufacture medications on OR daily pharmacy request form. 5. C ycle count pharmacy Vault daily. 6. W eekly inventory of selected oncology medications. 7. O rder inventory and complete all facets of EPIC inventory maintenance, rotate, and store all medication and supplies received from manufacturers, wholesalers and the Materials Management Department. 8. S taff in infusion pharmacy when needed. Sterile Products Manufacturing 0. P repare patient-specific, chemotherapy & supportive medication products using accepted techniques with adherence to USP and NIOSH guidelines 1. D on appropriate safety garb as per USP guidelines. 2. D ouble checks drug/solution and calculations as part of quality process. 3. U se standard reference sources to describe the general chemical and physical properties (e.g., light and temperature sensitivity, toxicity, solution stability, set and filter characteristics) of all drugs prepared in the sterile products area. 4. P erform arithmetical calculations required for the preparation of sterile products. 5. D emonstrates knowledge of common dosing ranges of medication, intravenous administration solution and set requirements for those agents. 6. A ssists in training of pharmacy staff in hazardous and non hazardous compounding, medication handling and preparation (under supervision of pharmacist). 7. U ses a spill kit appropriately. Environmental Management 0. USP <797> – incorporation of regulatory changes into daily practice including requirements for clean room maintenance/cleaning and specific aseptic procedures 1. S urface and environmental testing requirements 2. NIOSH guideline adherence for handling hazardous materials 3. equipment selection and maintenance (CADD pumps etc) 4. M onitor and report on pharmacy quality assurance activities to meet the requirements of USP <797>, <795> and <800> in pharmacy keeper. 5. P articipates in media fill, garbing, and fingertip testing. Workflow management 0. C oordination of pharmacy activities related to chemotherapy/infusion order entry and drug preparation and /or OR pharmacy activities.
