Cytogenetic Tech II Responsibilities 1. Log in samples and review submitted clinical data to allow appropriate pre-analytic triage of specimens 2. Perform assigned tissue culture and wet lab duties; assist with troubleshooting workflows or equipment; assist with maintaining equipment, supplies and reagent stocks 3. Demonstrate technical expertise in the following areas, as assigned:4. a. Chromosome analysis: Initiate and maintain cell cultures using sterile technique; perform all aspects of specimen processing; operate automated cell scanner; analyze metaphases using brightfield microscopy, record raw data, prepare final karyograms and record current ISCN, and/or 5. b. FISH analysis: Perform all aspects of specimen processing; analyze metaphases or interphase nuclei and record hybridization patterns; capture representative images at the fluorescence microscope workstation, and/or 6. c. Microarray analysis: Perform all aspects of specimen preparation, including DNA isolation and labeling, hybridization, washing and chip scanning; organize, interpret and annotate genomic data. 7. Assist with teaching rotating residents and fellows and training new employees, when assigned 8. Participate in scheduled technical meetings and assigned CAP proficiency testing 9. Participate in quality control / quality assurance activities; participate in equipment and assay validation; assist with periodic updates to standard operating protocols 10. Maintain a professional appearance at all times and perform additional assigned duties SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED 0. Strong communication and interpersonal skills 1. Productive work habits 2. Manual dexterity 3. Visual acuity (must be able to distinguish colors) 4. Proficient with computers (including use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc) 5. Organized, detail-oriented and able to keep meticulous records 6. Respectful of patient confidentiality 7. Responsible Worker Qualifications: Minimum of a BS or BA in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Chemical, Physical, or biological science from an accredited institution, college or university OR other qualifications as described in the Federal Register, 42 CFR, Subpart M – 1495 1+ years of experience working in a clinical Cytogenetics laboratory
