Why MGH IR? - Flexible shifts available: 8s or 10s, with or without weekend rotations - Commuting: 50% discount on MBTA passes with parking available on nights/weekends for on-call - Competitive on-call pay rates - Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance: Starts day 1 - PTO: Up to 30 paid days off annually for new hires - Retirement: Hospital funded pension plan plus a 403(b) with company match - Career Growth: Work with a variety of imaging modalities including fluoro, ultrasound, and CT guided procedures - Develop niche areas of expertise including specialized sub-roles for quality, safety, lead apron management, consumable product inventory, precepting newstaff, etc. - Team Environment: Collaborate with nurses, advanced practice providers, attending physicians, residents, and tech assistants to provide a cutting edge multi-disciplinary approach to patient care - Cover clinical areas including IR, CT-guided procedures, Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Hybrid procedures, Endovascular Neurosurgery, and Endoscopic interventions - State of the art equipment and rapid introduction of new technology: - Installed new in 2021-22: Two Siemens Icono hybrid OR suites, 3 Philips Epiq Elite ultrasounds with fusion navigation capabilities, 5 Bayer Medrad Mark 7 Arterion injectors, brand new large-bore GE CT-IR scanner - Siemens Zeego, Artis, Multipurpose, and Bi-plane lines - Pure fusion software and overlay including needle- and embo-guide, DYNA CT and 3D imaging - Ancillary devices: Angiojet, laser, EKOS, and cryo, microwave, and RF ablation technologies - Planned upgrade and renovation for two hybrid OR suites and two fluoroscopic procedural suites in 2022-23 - Exposure to state-of-the-art complex procedures including and not limited to: - SIRT, TACE, Ablations, Embolizations, TAVR, FEVAR, SpaceOAR, vertebroplasty, Level 1 Trauma cases, etc. - Consistently adding new innovative minimally invasive procedures - Work alongside a variety of image guided proceduralists including Interventional Radiologists, Neurosurgeons, Cardiac Surgeons, Vascular Surgeons, GI Proceduralists, Nephrologists, and Neuroradiologists Job Description Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Operates complex diagnostic and interventional radiographic equipment. In doing so, ensures the patient is properly positioned and immobilized. Selects proper imaging factors, and uses independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative under pressure in a variety of situations when performing patient examinations. Utilizes and initiates fluoroscopy for the purposes of positioning during invasive procedures. Ensures proper patient demographics and documentation for appropriate image storage for the patient record. Includes set-up of ultrasound devices for use during procedures as needed. Participates in IR procedures within the IR departments, peri-op environments, bedside, and elsewhere as needed. Cross-trains and supports the sub-specialties within IR including and not limited to abdominal procedures, vascular procedures, vascular surgery, Neuro IR, neurosurgery, endoscopic interventions, and cardiac surgery. Maintains aseptic conditions preparing patients for procedures and participating in cases. Includes sterile prep for procedure following all infection control policies and Instructions for Use for associated products. Maintains aseptic conditions preparing procedure trays, associated medications, and equipment in accordance with institutional policies and within the scope of the technologist role. Supports physician staff in handling and management of all labs and specimens obtained during IR procedures including correct labelling and appropriate delivery of samples. Supports drop-off and pick-up of sterile and soiled supplies between IR, soiled utility, and/or SPD as needed while following all hospital and regulatory guidelines around transport of soiled instruments. Uses appropriate personal protective equipment and precautions from all hazardous materials (bloodborne pathogens, radiation, etc.) as stated by unit policy and hospital authorization. Follows all hospital guidelines and policies around isolation precautions including those during aerosol generating procedures. Assists physicians as necessary during the procedure, including and not limited to positioning of the table and/or c-arm, set up for power injections, and advanced imaging techniques such as DYNA CT. Scrubbing in as a second operator as needed to assist the primary physician including catheter/wire management, administration of contrast, and assisting the physician to expedite the case and improve the quality of care. These practices adopted by the ASRT House of Delegates (Resolution 99-3.03, 1999). Knowledgeable and able to operate various ancillary equipment used in interventional procedures, including and not limited to cryo- and microwave ablation devices, angiojet, power injectors, EKOS, IVUS, laser, etc. and maintains competencies with all devices and attending in-services as arranged by the division. Calibrates and verifies operation of all equipment to be used during the day and notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions. Begins trouble-shooting process and calls service engineers when repair is indicated. Ensures appropriate storage remains available on the device during daily QC checks and ensuring images are properly recorded in PACS. Delivers patient care under the scope of license and training. Follows two-identifier patient identification process (Name, MRN, DOB). Maintains inventory tracking, utilization and replenishment within the patient’s medical record through the division s Inventory management software. Validates all documentation associated with procedure. Under the guidance of the inventory coordinator, assists with various tasks related to RFID tagging of product and stocking of medical/surgical supplies in appropriate RFID cabinets throughout the units. Performs proper post-processing of all images (e.g. pixel shift, window/level) and sends all appropriate images to PACS. Includes reformatting and/or DYNA CT and advanced software as needed on a case-by-case basis. Ensures availability of previous imaging as needed for procedures through workstation and/or Pushpage. Includes utilization of advanced software for overlay, needle-guidance, embo-guidance and/or FUSION as needed. Ensures all hospital and departmental documentation as related to the IR procedure is complete and accurate in a timely manner including EPIC, Nuance, Mobile Aspects, Visage PACS, etc. Remains up to date on the latest developments and trends in imaging techniques, procedures and equipment by readings, conference teachings, and seminars. Includes new technology and disposable supplies and understanding of function and usage as related to IR procedures. Participates in educational programs and meets state and national requirements for continuing education credits including Radiation Protection per state guidelines. May oversee and instruct various personnel and technology students within the department. This includes precepting new staff through the division and working closely with the IR Managers and supervisors while following the department Competency-Based Training program. Maintains procedure area in an orderly manner, prepares equipment, and stocks room supplies for daily use. Disposes of all patient information appropriately and ensures procedure space is always prepared for urgent cases. Participates in a rotating on-call schedule for evening, weekend, and holiday coverage. Includes urgent and routine case types deemed appropriate by IR andsubspecialty call-service Attending physicians. Maintains professional, effective, and constructive working relations and communication with all departmental staff and other hospital personnel. Communicates effectively across all role groups. Represents IR well in communication to staff outside the department. Acknowledges and participates in research programs, quality assurance and other quality improvement projects carried on in the department. Performs all other duties as directed. Skills and Competencies Required: • Knowledge of computer applications and digital technology. • Knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. • Knowledge of the principles of radiation physics and radiographic chemistry. • Knowledge of radiographic positioning and radiographic equipment. i.e. generators, x-ray tubes, collimators. • Knowledge of universal precautions. • Knowledge of catheters, guidewires and puncture needles. • Knowledge ofvarious contrast agents. • Knowledge of proper radiation safety and protection procedures. • Knowledge of aseptic technique for patient prep and procedures. • Computer skills and ability to interface with department computer systems, i.e. Inventory Management software, scheduling and completion of cases in Epic, as well as image networking and review through PACS. • Ability to safely lift and transport patients. • Ability to scrub in and assist as a second operator as needed. • Ability to effectively communicate to technologists, physicians, nurses, support staff, patients, and administration. • Attention to detail. • Ability to provide compassionate care to patients and their families. • Ability to function actively and appropriately during an emergency or code situation. • Physical ability to assist patients for transfer from stretcher, wheelchair, or in an emergent situation. • Maintains inventory of exam room and maintains a clean and safe working environment. • Must be able to read and write English. • Always maintains a high standard of professionalism. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS: Required: - Radiography RT license in the state of MA - R.T(R) - ARRT - BLS Preferred: R.T.(VI) or (CV) EDUCATION: Successful completion of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology EXPERIENCE: Preferred: Minimum of 1 year of Radiography experience WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to lift 40 pounds independently. Must be able to push stretcher with patient weighting 250 pounds independently. Exposure to radiation during fluoroscopic procedures; provided with proper-fitting lead. Proper use of PPE required. Exposure to blood and other bodily fluids, waste products and infectious diseases and viruses.

Unit staff are nice for the most part

Cons

The ER boarder is a mess they placed me there when my contract stated med surg unit and was stuck there for 2 months. A lot of the staff and supervisor were rude in the boarder program at MGH a few good staff employees but a nightmare.
