Description

Summary: Under the general supervision of the Radiology Director, the incumbent establishes, manages, and monitors standards and processes; communicates and trains on systems to ensure department guidelines are adhered to and upheld to the Mass Eye and Ear Imaging Department standards. Collaborates with radiologists, departmental leadership, and staff to ensure that protocols, patient care processes, dosing and imaging are performed per protocol. Ensure safe CT practices in accordance with departmental standards. The individual must demonstrate problem solving skills, organizational skills, leadership & exceptional communication skills. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Meets all responsibilities of an CT Technologist. - Provides immediate supervision to the CT Imaging personnel, assigns work, evaluates performance, and ensures on-going training. - Coordinate staff schedules and ensures adequate staffing throughout the department. - Ensures proper quality and quantity of work done by technical staff, prepares daily work assignments, and reassigns personnel as required, updates the on call directory, assigns coverage and posts shift coverage. - Communicates and coordinates with staff of previous and next shift regarding equipment problems, waiting patients and other like information. Performs the proper hand-off communication between shifts. Utilizes tools such as an communication log book to communicate between shifts. - Ensures proper stock of supplies needed to for operations, communicates deficiencies to Radiology Director. - Ensure that all Department, Hospital, DPH, ACR and Joint commission guidelines are met. Validates that all policies and procedures are in place, up to date and communicated to staff timely; ensures staff are following policies and procedures set forth by the department. - Functions as a liaison between physicians and front desk staff, explaining Department procedures, resolving problems and coordinating activities which affect patient care. Ensures all information regarding procedural or operational changes is communicated to appropriate staff. - Responsible for technical aspects of the modality. Actively participates in orientation of new personnel to department. Assists in the organization of new employee orientation and preceptor-ship of new technologists. - Assists staff with technical problems, oversees and/or carries out the preparation of patients for examinations. Ensures that patients are properly informed prior to their examination and that clinical information, relevant to the procedure, is obtained. Is responsible for leading the team checking cases two days ahead of time to validate patients are scheduled correctly and protocols are complete. - In collaboration with the Radiology Director reports corrective action behavior and may assist in presenting corrective action plans to staff. - Responsible for schedules, working to maximize optimization. Monitors and performs imaging of highest quality. Takes corrective action to ensure provision of quality patient care. Initiates requests for service and related equipment with in-house and service vendors. Evaluates problems regarding downtime. Keeps Radiology Director informed of status of instrument and scheduling issues. Maintains operation for overall imaging quality control, which includes (but is not limited to) contrast, density, filming, technical factors for the modality, QA and understanding anatomy and cross-sectional anatomy as it relates to each modality. - Assists Radiology Practice Manager, medical administrative assistant and other Department staff in various duties as necessary (i.e. scheduling & CT Radiation Safety, contrast agents, anesthesia cases, etc.) - Provides recommendations, feedback & takes part in performance evaluations with Radiology Director. - Leads CT staff training on equipment for new and current employees. - Responsible for full coordination of Anesthesia cases with Anesthesia Department, Radiology Administrative coordinator, Radiology manager & is responsible for ensure staff are trained and up to speed on all aspects of Anesthesia cases that involve Radiology. - Responsible for Biopsy case coordination, education and training of staff. - Responsible for department employee credentialing compliance. - Responsible for Main Campus & Quincy scanner protocol up-keep. - Additional Day staff resource for any administrative issues. - Responsible to assist the Radiology Director with any ongoing CT projects (replacements, equipment recommendations, etc) - Responsible for coordinating and scanning research cases. This includes training, education, and communication of studies. - Maintains Quality Assurance regarding equipment and technical protocols. Performs evaluations and recommendations, with input from the Radiology Director & Chief of Radiology, regarding technical protocols; completes monthly equipment QA testing procedures and assists in establishing new techniques and protocols. - Responsible for modality specific ACR accreditation, Department of Public Health and Joint Commission prep. - Prepares end of day shift report to Radiology Director & develops a communication log for staff. - Ensures that all technologists are familiar with and competent in the use and implementation of all departmental emergency supplies and procedures. Serves as a clinical resource person to staff members in their daily functions. - Works with Chief Radiologist to develop and improve MRI & CT policies and protocols; updates procedure manual. - Works with lab director on QA Point of Care Testing, training compliance and controls. Responsible for obtaining controls and cartridges. - Ensures all logs are complete and compliance (eye wash station, blanket warmer, Refrigerator logs, etc) - Attends and ensures staff attends mandatory in-service training & Radiation safety meeting: CT Radiation Dose reduction, fire safety, utility and equipment safety, hazardous materials safety, disaster code system, CPR, Universal Precautions. Maintains a safe work environment. Reports safety violations to standards/regulations to Clinical Manager and/or Director immediately. - Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to appropriately service the needs of the patients. Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs. - Meets all continuing education credits (CEU) requirements for the licenses they hold as listed below. - Complies with all essential functions as a CT technologist. - Performs other related duties as required. - ACR Accreditation, DPH, and Joint Commission prep and on site for inspections. - The CT Lead Technologist is responsible for managing the business operations for the CT department. Needs to be available on a 24/7 basis 365 days a year for urgent Practice or patient needs. Is responsible for finding shift coverage, if unable to find coverage is responsible for coming in and covering. - If not available due to vacation, sick or personal days will need to ensure coverage and designate someone in charge to cover function of the CT lead technologists. CROSS-MODALITY FLEXABILITY: Lead Imaging Technologist who have experience and are cross trained in other modalities such as X-Ray and MRI or CT may be assigned by one’s own initiative or by departmental needs as seen fit, including but not limited to; temporarily assigning shifts and rotating ones days and/or shift hours to ensure consistent, dependable service. While working in such modality, the employee must be competent and follow the guidelines for essential functions and responsibilities within that modality, while meeting the required licensing for the job. Skills & Competencies SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: This section should be a bulleted list of minimum requirements explaining the skills (what the individual is trained for) and competencies (measurable as defined by the job) necessary to perform the job. · Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. · Knowledge of CT contrast agents, administration, safety · IV insertion skills · Must have computer skills ability to effectively communicate verbally and written · Must be professional in appearance and demeanor. · Knowledge of CT imaging equipment. · Effective interpersonal, communications & leadership skills. · Ability to provide compassionate quality care to patients. · Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately. · Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of providing care to patients of all ages and developmental levels. · Prior Lead, Supervisor or management experience. Lead Imaging Specialists must meet license requirements and one of the following educational recommendations and as set forth by the department and the American College of Radiology (ACR) depending on specific modality: REQUIRED CT Technologists must meet license requirements and one of the following educational recommendations and as set forth by the department and the American College of Radiology (ACR): - ARRT registered with advanced CT certification. - Commonwealth of Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist state license. - Graduate of an approved School of Radiologic Technology PREFERRED - Bachelor’s degree in allied health field. - Technologists must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS / CPR) certification throughout employment and keep in compliance with CE requirements as set by the employees certifying organization and the American College of Radiology.
