- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science or chemical, physical or biological science and
- Active national general certification or categorical certification in a relevant specialty and
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience as MT2 (or equivalent) in high complexity testing.

- Active national general certification or categorical certification in a relevant specialty and

Staff handles potentially biohazardous body fluid samples (e.g. blood, urine, CSF) from patients and animals (research samples). Work is performed in a highly structured laboratory in which protective clothing (including personal protective garment and gloves) must be worn.

The Senior Technologist in Chemistry: Reports to the Laboratory Supervisor of the section; performs analytical tests on specimens to provide information to medical staff for diagnostic or interpretative purposes in a timely manner; performs tests following established policies and procedures; and serves as a resource to other medical technologists. Performs all duties and responsibilities of Medical Technologist I and I
I. Makes judgement as to sample suitability; performs test procedures on specimens, including selection of proper test procedures, reagents, controls, and instruments; calculates test findings using mathematical formulas and conversion tables; and evaluates the validity of test results. Reports to supervisor any unusual findings for final decision concerning release of results. Records test results either manually or electronically into the computer. Operates instruments such as analytical balance, multi channel analyzers, and other specialized analyzers. Aids in preventive maintenance as well as troubleshooting equipment malfunction. Prepares reagents according to prescribed directions. May involve weighing dry and liquid materials, reconstituting lyophilized materials and other chemical substances. Evaluates results of quality control procedures and either takes corrective action within purview of position or advises Supervisor. Records results of daily quality control correctly. Provides orientation, instruction and training of Chemistry Lab operations and procedures to laboratory staff, new employees, medical staff, as directed by Supervisor. Monitors and evaluates other medical technologists’ performance and competencies as directed by Supervisor. Serves as acting laboratory supervisor when supervisor is absent from the area. Recommends appropriate policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Responds to and aids in resolving any unsafe conditions. Oversees operation of analytical instruments. Performs or schedules preventative maintenance and troubleshooting as required. Communicates all equipment malfunctions or operational problems to supervisor. Understands and follows established safety measures (including infection control and hazardous material) to minimize hazards related to chemicals, fires, corrosive materials, explosives, and biohazards. Notifies supervisor of unsafe conditions. Performs and manages data associated with instrument and method evaluations and correlations as directed by supervisor. Rotates as needed, to other areas (or benches) within Core Lab. Includes performing duties related to stock room operation (inventoring reagents, ordering, preparing and distributing supplies), or Front Office (processing paperwork and specimens, answers telephones, communicates test results.) Maintains and assists medical technicians in maintaining regulatory compliance in all aspects of specimen handling and testing.
