This position Includes a 15K Sign on Bonus Summary: Under the general direction of the Administrative Director and the Supervision of the Lead Technologist performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures as directed by a physician, servicing patients of all ages and requiring independent judgment to apply ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. The majority of patients will be from the adult and geriatric age groups. Performs a variety of patient contact duties that may include educating patients/families to safety protocols and to routine diagnostic procedures. Utilizes Epic for patient processing and multiple system for digital capture of diagnostic images. Insures that images are sent properly and efficiently transmitted to MGH Teleradiology for interpretation. Provides periodic supervisory oversight in the absence of Director and/or Rad III. Key Responsibilities: -Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all radiographic equipment in department according to established guidelines to ensure safe and effective equipment operation. · Provides diagnostic radiographic services for patients of all ages, applying principals of radiation protection and according to department policy and procedure. Contributes positively to meeting departmental goal of a retake analysis of =5% by achieving a personal goal of </= 4%. Performs positive patient identification prior to starting any examination. Correctly interprets exam request making sure history conforms to exam requested. Processes all patient requests in EPIC and required MGH information systems. Focuses on timely completion of patient processing to optimize results reporting from MGH Teleradiology. · Provides patient care and education essential in the performance of procedures, recognizing patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiates life support measures. Maintains knowledge ofemergency equipment location and code alert procedures. Ensures that Emergency cart supplies are present and current. · Exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures, demonstrating anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and technique selection and evaluates radiographs for technical quality. Assists physicians with imaging procedures and administration of contrast media. Advises/acts as a resource for Rad I staff with regard to image quality. Oversees daily patient throughput in the absence of RAD III; effectively utilizes departmental resources. · Acquires and maintains knowledge of related topics to include, but not limited to: radiation safety, contact precautions, hazardous waste disposal, interpersonal/communication skills and proper handling of requisitions, pre and post procedure. - Participates in identified professional programs, in-service training, and department meetings. · Maintains and rotates supplies/inventory. Ensures that dated supplies have not expired. - May provide input on Department supplies and purchasing decisions. - Experienced with Digital Radiography and all storage systems. - Performs visual preventative maintenance checks, assists with quality assurance/ quality improvement projects, records and reports results to Lead Technologist and/or Administrative Director. · Works with and provides instruction to radiography students on clinical rotation at SRN. · Assists in clerical/other areas as necessary. · On call responsibilities Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities (include number and type of FTEs) Oversees daily patient throughput in the absence of RAD III; effectively utilizes departmental resources Qualifications and Experience · Minimum of three years clinical experience. · CPR/ BLS required. Education/Degree · Required Completion of formal radiological technology training in an AMA approved school. · Certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists. · Active Massachusetts (DPH) license to perform radiography. Licensure - Current and valid Massachusetts(DPH) license to perform radiography. - Current and valid ARRT credentials Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.) · Verbal/written communication skills with the English language are necessary to understand oral and written instructions stated in radiological and medical terms in order to understand/exchange information with patients and hospital staff. Demonstrates the ability to interact with patients who may be under physical and emotional stress. Maintains patient confidentiality. Good communication skills are necessary in supervising department personnel. · Form/spatial perception is necessary to perceive details in x-ray to determine acceptability of exposure. · Manual dexterity is necessary to adjust machine controls, arrange, attach and adjust supportive devices. · Must demonstrate computer skills to use all departmental systems competently, particularly, but not limited to Epic, DR Radiology and Visage- PACS. Will be a resource for junior staff. · Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of anatomy, radiographic positioning and radiographic equipment. · Must demonstrate the knowledge and problem-solving skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. · Must demonstrate the ability to obtain satisfactory radiographs by following set procedures and standards. · May demonstrate the ability to direct, control and plan activities of others in the Radiology department in the absence of the Director or Rad III.
