Description

Summary: Under the general direction of the Administrative Director performs Ultrasound procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of procedures as directed by a physician, selecting proper imaging techniques, operating ultrasound-imaging equipment to acquire images and provide an initial interpretation of exam to the physician in diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. S ervicing patients of all ages .The majority of patients will be from the adult and geriatric age groups. Utilizes Epic for patient processing and multiple system for digital capture. Insures that images are sent properly and efficiently transmitted to MGH Teleradiology for interpretation. Key Responsibilities: - Ensures that two points of patient identification is obtained, that patient is properly prepared, and obtains a relevant patient history. Reviews the patient’s chart to obtain pertinent clinical history, test results and laboratory data as they apply to accurate interpretation of the ultrasound examination. - Explains exam to the patient taking into consideration physical and emotional needs; maintaining ethical standards (patient confidentiality, professional conduct, etc.). Delivers patient care under scope of license/training - Utilizes universal precaution techniques as well as safety techniques specific to the patient’s status. - Performs Ultrasound studies on pediatric patients. Is knowledgeable about illnesses related to this patient population and the various types of care being provided to them. - Be knowledgeable in the operation of all equipment to be used during the workday. To notify appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed - Maintains effective working relations and communication with departmental and other hospital personnel. - Execute paperwork, PACS, RIS,EPIC and reporting functions as necessary for each patient exam. - Prepare the equipment, room and supplies necessary for each patient and regular daily use. Stock and supply room and general department area as needed. - May oversee and instruct various personnel and technology students within the department. - To acknowledge and participate in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects carried on in the department - To assume all responsibilities for on-call coverage and to remain flexible in all shift coverage and overtime situations as necessary. (not applicable to Ultrasound at this time). - Remain up to date on developments and trends in imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment. To participate in education programs and meet state and national requirements for continuing educational credits. - Transport and transfer patients using established procedures according to departmental guidelines. - Use independent judgment and initiative under pressure in a variety of situations when performing patient exams. - Perform all other duties as directed. Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities (include number and type of FTEs) N/A Fiscal Responsibilities:(include size of annual budget) N/A Qualifications and Experience - Must have graduated from an AMA accredited Ultrasound Program with a minimum of 12 months’ full time clinical ultrasound experience. - Must meet the requirements and successfully complete the ARDMS certification (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) or equivalent. - Must become registered in all the institution’s accredited specialties: first specialty or additional specialty must be completed within one year of start of employment. Second specialty within second year of employment. Additional specialties as required by the accreditation agency. Experience · One year experience preferred. · Effective verbal, electronic and written communications skills using the English language · High level of service delivery. Demonstrate initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations. · Problem solving skills for treatment planning and execution taking into consideration patient’s age, psychosocial, and cultural background. · Computer proficiency. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software. Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.) - Verbal/written communication skills with the English language are necessary to understand oral and written instructions stated in medical terms in order to understand/exchange information with patients and hospital staff. - Manual dexterity is necessary to adjust machine controls, arrange, attach and adjust supportive devices. - Must demonstrate basic computer skills. - Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of anatomy, positioning and ultrasound equipment. - Must demonstrate the knowledge and problem-solving skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. - Must demonstrate the ability to obtain satisfactory Images by following set procedures and standards. · CPR/ BLS required
