As a Pharmacy Buyer/Technician III you will be responsible for the procurement of medications and supplies. In addition, the pharmacy buyer maintains records of purchases in an easily retrievable form for audit purposes and communicates any problems that may impact the supply.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage purchasing functions for the consolidated pharmacy supply chain that services all ChristianaCare locations
- Ensure that all billing and ordering functions are completed daily to ensure cost transfers are timely
- Quickly respond to emails that identify specific patient needs and that may require emergency deliveries to complete a patient’s treatment regimen
- Work in coordination with the 340B team ensuring that drugs are ordered off the appropriate accounts
- During drug shortage situations, work with pharmaceutical representatives ensuring that stock outages are limited
- Navigate the distribution channels for REMS drugs and ensure that each channel has up to date licensing information, accounts are free from outstanding balances, and expected turn-round times can be met
- Work with wholesalers and accounts payable to ensure that no outstanding invoices are left unpaid
- Order medications in a manner that separates hazardous items from non-hazardous items
- Manage the ordering of controlled substances in schedules III-V of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA)
- Communicate impending drug shortages with pharmacy leadership
- Resolve discrepancies between what vendors/wholesalers have shipped versus quantities received
- Maintain and organize files (primarily invoices) so that they are easily retrievable in the event of an audit
- Serve as a resource for departments and employees regarding purchasing processes and procedures, order status, and basic use of purchasing-specific software systems
- Assist with the biannual physical inventory process
- Proactively order medications that are new additions to the formulary
- Maintain spend analytics tools ensuring that purchases from all primary and secondary wholesalers, 503B certified compounding companies and direct shipments are logged
Education and Experience requirements:
- High School Diploma required
- BS in business, health care, or other related field preferred
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification required unless enrolled in a PharmD program
- At least 10 years of progressive Pharmacy Technician experience with strong background in pharmacy supply preferred
- Familiarity with drug purchasing processes and 340B preferred
- Applicants enrolled or graduate of a 4-year bachelor program in the following health science majors are encourage to apply and will be required PTCB certification in 1 year of employment: Applied Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Biology, Chemistry, Exercise Science, Health Behavior Science, Human Physiology, Medical Diagnostics, Medical Diagnostics Pre-PA, Medical Laboratory Science, Nutrition, Nutrition and Dietetics, Nutrition and Medical Sciences, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Sports Health or other related degrees.
