    Description

    The ChristianaCare General Laboratory located on the Newark campus, is currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technical Specialist with Flow Cytometry experience.

    The Laboratory Specialist will be responsible for the performance of instrumentation, manual methodology, troubleshooting, and staff competency and understanding of procedures in defined areas of expertise. This is a Day Shift position; no holidays or weekend rotation.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensures effective technical operation of the section(s).

    • Evaluates all instrumentation problems to determine level of malfunction.

    • Acts as reference for caregiver questions regarding instrument performance, methodology issues, and/or determination of manually performed procedures, triaging questions to Quality Control Coordinator, Clinical Biochemist, other technical specialists, section chiefs, supervisors and managers as appropriate.

    • Acts as a reference for General Laboratory staff systemwide regarding pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic testing issues.

    • Maintains Quality Assurance (QA) of assigned sections across all CC general laboratories, completes scheduled QA tasks including method comparisons and analytic measurement range verification.

    • Evaluates monthly quality control reports for technical sections in conjunction with Clinical Biochemist and Quality Control Coordinator, redefines quality control ranges as needed.

    • Reviews and validates abnormal test results, assessing plausibility of lab results through correlation of values with common physiological conditions or specific patient symptoms.

    • In conjunction with section manager(s), technical specialists/Clinical Biochemist and section supervisor(s), prepares section for CAP and Joint Commission inspections.

    • Researches new procedures under direction of Clinical Biochemist, Manager, Director or Section Chief(s).

    • Updates and writes technical procedures, in conjunction with section managers and Clinical Biochemist. 

    • Performs/maintains method validation and verification studies for all new and current methodologies used in the assigned sections.

    • Maintains (individual/professional) competency and can accurately and efficiently perform all test procedures in area of expertise as listed in the procedure manuals.

    • Assesses competency of all caregivers in areas of defined proficiency on a yearly basis or more frequently as determined.

    Qualifications:

    • BS MLS (ASCP) or equivalent.

    • Minimum five years’ experience in area of expertise, with one year in supervisory or leadership position.

    • Subspecialty (ASCP) certification preferred.
