Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The primary responsibility involves all phases of noninvasive peripheral vascular testing. The work is performed on hospital patients and outpatients in accordance with established procedures and protocols of the department under the direct supervision of the interpreting vascular physician. The vascular technologist is responsible for all non-invasive vascular procedures in the vascular laboratory. The technologist must show significant, independent judgment in performing all procedure and be able to deal with difficult or unusual situations. Must be able to evaluate studies for technical quality and correlate with other modalities when appropriate.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform all diagnostic vascular procedures and operate all vascular equipment such as ultrasound imagers, treadmill, segmental limb pressure and pulse volume recordings, responsible to differentiate normal from abnormal pathology.
Performs a thorough review of the patient charts to verify the physician orders and obtain pertinent clinical history relating to the examination.
Responsible for recognizing characteristic changes related to age spans and chronic disease.
Responsible for establishing which procedures are appropriate for the diagnosis and which procedures are contraindicated for specific symptoms and test values.
Responsible for differentiating user created artifact from patient pathology.
Responsible for briefly explaining the test to the patient and answer any questions the patient may have. Professional ethics and confidentiality should be kept in mind.
Make the patient as comfortable as possible while in the department. Insure patient safety and attend to their needs the entire time they are in the department.
Responsible for evaluating studies for technical quality.
Responsible for utilizing all accessories necessary to perform procedure.
Responsible for proper identification of films.
Responsible for portions of the Quality Assurance Program, assists with development and updating of policy and procedures and pursues ongoing continuing education.
Displays actions in accordance with Christiana Care Health Services Mission Statement and Core Values.
Responsible for other duties or projects assigned by Supervisor/Manager, Administrative Director, or Medical Director of Vascular Lab.
Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and policies. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs and to provide the care needed.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Consistently uses two patient identifiers.
- Completes all mandatory education
- Performs other related duties as required including, but not limited to, rotating through satellite locations.
SCHEDULE/HOURS:
Full-time - (40 hours weekly)
Mon-Fri: 7am-3:30pm
Holiday and Call rotation will be needed, as well as occasional flexibility with weekend rotation coverage.
Coverage of primarily Christiana and Wilmington Hospital. Possible coverage to Middletown’s ED (on call).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be a graduate of an AMA-approved program in ultrasound or other allied health profession or possess equivalent training.
- Must be RVT registered If a new graduate of an approved ultrasound program, RVT registry is required within one year of hire date..
- Must demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of all vascular procedures
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credential or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Intermittent sitting, standing, walking and pushing of heavy 400 pound ultrasound machine as well as pushing/pulling of patients on stretchers.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, twist, handle, stoop and bend.
- Ability to assist patients to and from stretcher
