Job Summary:
Coordinates and monitors outpatient nutrition counseling services provided to outpatients/clients served including nutrition assessment and screening, development of nutrition and diet plans and counseling. Completes progress notes, serves as a liaison and provides documentation in medical record to client’s personal physician.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in food and nutrition or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor’s): Required
- Master's Degree: Required, only if eligibility for examination began on or after 1/1/24
- Experience as a Clinical Dietitian: Preferred
- Dietetic internship or its equivalent: Required
Licenses/Certifications:
- Registered Dietitian (RD): Required
- Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist (CDCES): Required
- Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or CDCES: Required
Essential Functions:
- Performs nutrition assessment, reassessment and patient/family education. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by Registered Dietitian (RD) as defined in the scope of practice, to ensure the needs of patients are addressed. Acts as a competent clinician who provides clinical care in a skilled and effective manner, utilizing appropriate technical and decision-making skills.
- Conducts and coordinates outpatient nutritional counseling sessions and services. Follows American Dietetics Association (ADA) Medical Nutrition Therapy and other appropriate nutrition counseling protocols. Completes required documentation and maintains organized files for client charts.
- Acts as an educational resource for health care team and others including dietetic interns, patients, family members and community. Serves as instructor or assistant in presenting nutrition-related classes, seminars and workshops including heart/cancer prevention seminars, seniors’ seminars, wellness and fitness seminars, etc.
- Works on problems of diverse scope and complexity. Assists clinical staff and department or unit management in determining methods and procedures for new tasks. Exercises independent judgment on moderately complex cases.
- Assists in making recommendations on process improvement or development of new clinical services. Elevates questions, problems and significant challenges to more senior staff for direction or subject matter expertise. Mentors and trains staff on technical skills.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
