Summary:
The purpose of this position to assist a licensed physician by performing ophthalmic clinical duties and assisting with the needs of the unit, including preparing patients for clinic visits, examinations, and procedures by completing intake documentation, vital signs, height/weights and rooming; preparing and assisting in examinations/procedures. Activities performed are intended to support, supplement, and/or complement patient care provided by licensed personnel.
Responsibilities:
* ALL MEDICAL ACTS PERFORMED BY AN OPHTHALMIC ASSISTANT ARE PURSUANT TO DELEGATION BY AND UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A PHYSICIAN. THE DELEGATING PHYSICIAN REMAINS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MEDICAL ACTS OF THE OPHTHALMIC ASSISTANT PERFORMING THOSE ACTS.
* Subject to this delegation requirement, the following job specific responsibilities apply:
* Assists ophthalmologists in treatment and care of patients.
* Escorts or transports patient to exam rooms, treatment rooms or other areas as directed.
* Prepare patient for examination and treatment by Physician or other Provider; gather patient data regarding condition; take vital signs, height and weight and document this information in the medical record.
* Obtain past medical history and history of current ocular complaints from patients.
How You’ll Be Successful:
WORK EXPERIENCE
* Minimum 6 months experience in a patient care setting required.
* 6 months experience in an Ophthalmic patient care setting preferred.
EDUCATION
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
* Completion of either a Medical Assistant Program or an International Council of Accreditation (ICA) accepted training program at the Clinical Assistant (Ophthalmic Assistant) level Upon Hire preferred.
* Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1/20 Life Support Course Requirement required.
