Shift: This position will be at either the Plano campus or Love Field.It is required to be flexible between bases and times. For this position, the time should be either 7p-7a or 9p-9a.

Summary:
The role of the RCP in Transport is to provide complete patient care in conjunction with fellow team members during inter-hospital transport, including responsibility for assessment and stabilization of transport patients, as well as performance of necessary diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. The RCP is expected to function as a knowledgeable and prudent team member on the aircrafts. This includes but is not limited to, having knowledge on the logistics of air medical transports, specific aircrafts utilized by the vendors, ongoing knowledge of emergency procedures, communication standards and safety, risk mitigation, resourcing and hazard recognition to participate in the safety of all crew members. The Transport RCP is also expected to function as the lead caregiver in paramedic transports, responsible for patient assessment, medication administration, including narcotics and documentation once Paramedic certification, competencies and training is complete.

Responsibilities:
* Clinical Responsibilities: Complete physical assessments with the ability to distinguish normal from abnormal findings. Successfully assess at-risk status. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as necessary and appropriate for the care of the patient. Such procedures will include: administration of medications, establishing IV access peripherally, intraosseous, internal / external jugular and umbilical venous catheter insertion, venipuncture, arterial puncture, tracheal intubation, laryngeal mask airway insertion, cricothyrotomy, needle thoracotomy, assist with chest tube placement, interpretation of blood gases and lab values, maintain, monitor and evaluate non-invasive diagnostic equipment, determine need for respiratory assistance and oxygen requirements and perform and / or assist in CPR and other emergent procedures. Initiate, maintain and monitor invasive and non-invasive ventilator management including SIMV, High Frequency, BiPAP, CPAP. Initiate and monitor patient response to specialty gases such as inhaled Nitric Oxide. Communicate with family including condition of patient, disease information (if possible) expectation with transport and measures that will be done at Children's. Maintain communication with attending physician during transport, as per protocols. Maintain communication with referral staff, as per protocols. Maintain knowledge and competency in the use of all transport equipment. Assure that all transport equipment is available and in good working order at all times. Complete all documentation required for transport in a timely fashion. Maintain flexibility in scheduling. Maintain required response times when on call.
* Management: Responsible for complete cardiopulmonary care on transported patients and must provide critical care to the patient in the absence of physician and collaborate with transport team members and referral facility staff. This includes assessment, interpretation of lab data and initiation of interventions as per protocol and contacting medical control for online orders. Once Paramedic training is complete and license obtained, function as primary care giver for a Paramedic team.
* Attend all required safety training programs, apply information and can describe his / her responsibilities related to general safety, department / service safety, specific job related hazards; maintain current knowledge / certification / licensure, pursue professional growth and development; Train, assist and / or mentor employees with less experience, skill or tenure; and perform other duties and / or special projects as assigned.

WORK EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION
* Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience Req

* Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) Upon Hire Req

* Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers (HCPs) through the American Heart Association Upon Hire Req
* City of Dallas Ambulance Permit (within 36 months of hire) Req

* ATLS / ATCN, TNCC, or TPATC 1 1/2 Yrs Req
* NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) 180 Days Req
* PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) 180 Days Req
* ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) 180 Days Req
* NPS (preferred upon hire) (within 24 months) Req
* NREMT-P (within 36 months of hire) Pref
