Provides patient care functions related to a variety of needs related to preprocedural and post-procedural care. All care providers are responsible to meet patient needs to the extent of their ability and training while fostering a harmonious work environment in which high quality patient care and customer service is consistently provided. Promotes a cooperative working relationship with care providers, physicians, other discipl ines and the publ ic by facilitat ing and enhancing communication, displaying honesty and respect, displaying sensitivity to cultural differences, and expressing and accepting feedback in a professional manner. The staff member in this position must be able to plan and provide healthcare interventions that take into consideration age specific needs for patients in the age o f adolescence, early middle and late adulthood.Job Description:
Carries out the delegated patient care activities:
- Draws blood by venipuncture, observing strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis.
- Performs bedside EKG testing.
- Sets up oxygen delivery systems including cannulas, masks and mists.
- Performs oxygen saturation tests and reports results.
- Carries out simple respiratory functions as ordered, such as coughing and deep breathing.
- Observes patient, checks equipment and makes changes as necessary.
- Assists in applying orthopedic postop devices.
- Provides incontinent care.
- Changes linen.
- Inspects the skin, reporting changes and problems to the Registered Nurse.
- Applies elastic stockings, pneumatic stockings.
- Performs pre-procedure clip prep per prep guidelines.
- Initiates post nausea liquids and crackers and reports and documents patient's response.
- Obtains, measures and records.
- Vital signs
- Weights-standing and bed scale
- Intake and output
- Empties foleys, bedpans, commodes, urinals and records output prn.
- Knowledgeable of normal values and reports deviations to the Registered Nurse.
- Applies condom catheters.
- Maintains and discontinues condom catheters.
- Turns and positions patient.
- Assists patients in and out of gurney and chair.
- Ambulates with or without assistive devices and reinforces instruction.
- Observes and reports patient's progress, attitudes and behavior.
- Collects specimens: blood, urine, stool, sputum.
- Follows lab policies re: labeling of specimens.
- Discontinues IV'S.
- Responds to patients call lights.
- Documents patient care data using computerized patient information system or on noncomputerized record.
- Communicates with patient in a clear, open and collaborative manner showing care and concern.
Assures safe movement of patients throughout the Medical Center
- Greets patient /family/significant other and escorts and orients to SDC.
- Helps patients into wheelchairs and gurneys and transports them to various areas of the Medical Center
Communicates information appropriately and accurately
- Assist in maintaining current procedure schedule to assists in accounting for patients flow-through accurate to procedure schedule, noting and accommodating delays and move-ups.
- Communicates with patients, Lobby Desk and patient families regarding any changes to scheduled procedure times.
- Answers phones and refers calls to appropriate staff.
- Maintains inventory levels and stocks assigned area.
- Sets up, applies and troubleshoots equipment such as monitors, dynamaps, pumps, etc.
- Sets up unit ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
IAssists in clerical tasks as needed
- Demonstrates computer skills in order entry and lab report retrieval.
- Demonstrates computer skills in printing of patient labels.
- Demonstrates ESI computer skills in printing of schedules and Same Day Surgery Log.
- Files lab and hospital reports into the patient record.
- Reports and corrects unsafe conditions.
- Performs other duties as requested.

EDUCATION
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
Phlebotomy Certificate within 90 Days of hire
Current BCLS Upon Hire
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:
Minimum of one year recent clinical experience in an acute care or ambulatory care setting.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge:
• Able to communicate clearly and effectively in English.
• Able to write legibly and effectively present ideas; document activities; read and interpret written information.
Special Skills/Equipment:
• Phlebotomy
• EKG Testing
• Obtaining vital signs
• Training in body mechanics
• Basic understanding of universal precautions, including regular hand washing.

Pay Range is $29.15 to $35.50 / hourThe salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
