Job Description
The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse responsible for providing safe, competent quality care to patients in the ICU. This role involves applying nursing theory and research to deliver patient care effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver patient care using the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care.
- Assess and evaluate patient care needs, applying critical thinking in management.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement care plans.
- Educate patients and caregivers about their care plans and health promotion.
Patient Experience
- Model the tenets of Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Conduct purposeful rounding and address patient needs effectively.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Engage in quality improvement projects and nursing research studies.
- Document nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate with management to ensure adequate supplies and staffing.
- Document care accurately in compliance with standards.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues and contribute to a positive care environment.
- Advance clinical competence and participate in shared decision-making.
Qualifications
- Licensure: NYS RN License
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- 2 years of critical care/tele experience
- 1 year of travel experience (for travel positions)
- Preferred: EPIC experience
Additional Information
- Average Unit Census: 8 patients
- Staffing Guidelines: 1 nurse for every 2 patients
- Schedule: 3x12 hours, every other weekend, variable shifts
