Job Description

The Registered Professional Nurse provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and their significant others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Deliver patient care using the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care.
• Assess and evaluate patient care needs, applying critical thinking skills.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement care plans.
• Educate patients and caregivers about their care plans and health promotion.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.

Patient Experience

• Model the tenets of Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care.
• Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Initiate service recovery for patients and families with concerns.
• Conduct Purposeful Hourly Rounding on assigned patients.

Quality and Safety

• Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Collaborate with teams to implement quality improvement projects and evidence-based practices.
• Document nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement initiatives.

Operations

• Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
• Coordinate with management to ensure adequate supplies and staffing.
• Document accurately in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.

Professional Development

• Contribute to a supportive environment for clinical colleagues and patients.
• Advance clinical competence and project a professional image.
• Participate in shared decision-making through committees and initiatives.

Required Skills

• NYS RN License
• BLS and ACLS certifications
• Experience in Telemetry and Medical-Surgical nursing (minimum 2 years)
• Travel experience for travel positions (minimum 1 year)
• EPIC experience highly preferred
