Job Description

The Heart and Vascular Sonographer performs non-invasive ultrasound in the modalities of vascular and echocardiography. Responsibilities include:

• Performing non-invasive vascular and/or echo testing.
• Following established testing protocols to produce high-quality study images and data.
• Obtaining appropriate patient history prior to tests.
• Ensuring supporting information and documentation for exams.
• Explaining testing procedures to patients and their families.
• Developing and maintaining good relationships with clients and co-workers.
• Ensuring efficient provision of services and collaborating with peers for maximum productivity.
• Scheduling add-on and emergency exams to maintain workflow.
• Communicating with patient care areas for timely patient prep.
• Keeping assigned areas clean and stocked with supplies.
• Communicating equipment maintenance needs and operating equipment safely.
• Following Quality Control standards and participating in departmental process improvement activities.
• Staying updated on new testing protocols and fulfilling continuing education requirements.
• Complying with annual hospital and departmental safety and education requirements.
• Attending department meetings and contributing to the agenda.

Required Skills & Experience

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to communicate effectively with hospital management, physicians, and technologists.
• Current knowledge of technology and clinical advances related to cardiac and/or vascular sonography.
• Working knowledge of accreditation, credentialing, and quality assurance procedures.
• Basic understanding of imager configuration, DICOM standards, networking, and medical records.
