Job Description
The registered nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating nursing care, which includes:
- Direct patient care
- Patient/family education
- Transitions of care
The RN will operate within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, ensuring accountability for all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. Key responsibilities include:
- Planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating nursing care
- Providing leadership through preceptor roles and quality improvement efforts
- Delegating patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, and resource availability
- Engaging in mentoring and teaching
Specific Responsibilities in the Pacemaker Device Clinic
- Support care for patients with pacemakers, bi-ventricular devices, implantable cardiac defibrillators, and implantable loop recorders
- Exhibit strong critical thinking skills and utilize guidelines for patient care
- Engage in ongoing learning of device platforms and technology
- Perform patient education, assessment, and device-related programming
- Conduct in-person device checks and remote device transmissions
- Review and interpret data for abnormal device function
- Provide post-implant patient education and site assessments
- Perform telephone triage and care coordination
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams, including Electrophysiology and other departments
Minimum Education and Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate, associate, or diploma nursing program
- Licensure: Current RN license as per state requirements
- Certification: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required, must not expire within 3 months after start date
Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to mentor and teach others
- Experience in cardiac electrophysiology and rhythm interpretation is preferred
